Jaguar X300 XJ6 3.2 Sport
Rare Aquamarine Metallic
Grey Half Leather Sports Interior
152k Miles
MOT November 2021
Excellent Service History
This is a well maintained example, with over £8k in bills and receipts. It has invoices for work including: Timing Chain and Tensioners, New ECU, SubFrame Repairs, New Alternator, Crankshaft Oil Seal, Timing Cover Gasket, Tyres, Brakes, Servicing, Bodywork Repairs, etc.
Being the Sport model, it has:
Lower and slightly stiffer suspension, Sports Half Leather Interior, Wider Sport 'Dimple' Alloy Wheels, Sport Perforated Leather Steering Wheel, Dark Walnut Burr Trim.
Also, this colour option of Aquamarine mostly came in either the Sport of XJR versions. The colour is stunning, especially when the sun hits it. In certain shades it looks like a turquoise but when it's darker outside it can look like British Racing Green. One of my personal favourite colours for the X300.
Standard X300 XJ Specification includes:
The car is mechanically sound, and drives like an XJ should. It starts first time, and idles in the correct manner. There is no overheating. It gets to the optimum temperature and sits there. Excellent Oil Pressure. Voltage as it should be. Exhausts back boxes are solid, with none of the usual blows or leaks. There is a slight blow on the manifold down pipe, which quietens as the car gets gets up to temperature.
I took it on a 250 mile round trip over the bank holiday weekend, and it did not miss a beat. Temperature sat slap bang in the middle, even when sitting in traffic with the outside temperature showing 28 degrees.
'AJ16’ / 3239cc / Straight Six / 24 Valve / 216 BHP / 140+ MPH
It has the legendary and robust 'AJ16" 3.2 litre straight-six engine. This has plenty of power and low-down torque. I have had a fair few of these, but this one in particular is very lively. Pulls well throughout the rev range all the way to the red line, with no hesitation or power loss. These six cylinder units can trace their blood line back to the 50s Jags, and go on forever.
Had a major service including spark plugs in 2019, less than 5k miles ago. Oil is very clean.
The gearbox is good and the gears change as they should. Jaguar really did get the gearboxes good. Goes through all the ratios fine and kicks down with no vibrating.
Suspension gives the legendary XJ 'magic carpet' ride. It floats down the road nicely. Being the Sport mode, it has slightly lower suspension. Has a slight knock on uneven road surfaces, which I believe are the front anti-roll bar links. Would also benefit from tracking, as the steering wheel is off centre and it pulls a bit to the left. Slight whine from a rear wheel bearing, mainly at lower speeds.
For a large car, it still handles impressively well and you can confidently throw it into corners at speed. It's no Lotus Elise, but will surprise you with how it behaves.
The brakes are fine. They stop this car well and there is no noticeable shuddering or pulling to one side. Recent Front Discs and Pads.
The tyres all have decent tread, and the front two are very recent.
Being an upmarket model, it is built to a high quality standard and you can appreciate this from the fit and finish. It is a pleasure to drive and long journeys are completed with ease - you get out at the other end feeling refreshed. Anyone who goes for a spin in the car always give positive comments about how it drives and also on the classic appearance of the interior.
Everything works as it should, which is to be expected from a car which cost over £45k when new. There are currently no warning lights on the dashboard cluster.
There is a VDO CD player head unit system.
The car is in presentable condition, but id does have some of the usual defects from this era of XJ. There are some areas where the paint has gone a little flat. Rear arches have some rust bubbles, but no major heavy corrosion and can be easily repaired. Front wings also have some rust bubbling. Remarkably, there is no other major rust or rot on the body – it is solid, especially compared to many others out there. NSR quarter has a few dents. The lacquer has peeled in a few spots, but none of the usual heavy lacquer peel or cracked paint on the roof, bonnet or boot lid. There are marks, blemishes and stone chips as to be expected on a 24 year old car. The bumpers have a few scuffs. It is not new or perfect, but still looks special and classy - no one would think you paid less than £2k for this lump of metal!
Remember, the paintwork is easier to rectify than repairing rust issues. And most of these X300s have lots of rust, especially on the rear arches, sills and front wings. Of all the Jags I have had, this is one if the cleanest in terms of corrosion - the body is pretty much rot free, apart from the light rusting on the arches.
Finished off with a set of lovely and genuine Jaguar 16" 'Dimple' Sport Alloy Wheels. These really suit the car, and can sell for upwards of £350 a set on eBay!
The interior of this car is in good order, but the driver's seat is torn on the base, the back support area and has wear on the bolster area (if you are fussy, would benefit from being re-trimmed or replaced). Everything is tight and solid. The seats are comfortable, and the front ones adjust electrically. The passenger front door card needs some new bottom clips.
There is an abundance of dark wood and leather everywhere, as well as some nice chrome touches. LCD clock doesn't work (show me one that does!). Headlining has sagged and is pinned up in a few places.
Grab a bargain - prices of decent X300s are steadily increasing, and won't be this money for long. Especially the later Sport models with the straight-six engine.
Comes with: 1 x Key, 1 x Remote Fob, Service Booklet, MOT History Printout, Over £8k in Bills & Receipts, V5 Logbook.
