When we put a silvertop zetec up to a type 9 gearbox, we had to have another flywheel, but I can’t remember why I do know retroford will do all the bits, and I think it’s possible to have a pinto flywheel redrilled to suit Senior moments get more frequent at my age🤫

Being in my early fifties x flows and ohc ford engines were always the ones to have Now with my son being a ford nut at 18 modern engines are the thing , the zetec in my van is absolutely fantastic revs allday long and has plenty of power for me And the plug and play stuff is endless now A good screaming x flow is always great But I’ve got to say the zetec Is a great motor

I have seen that for sale on Facebook and thought to myself I had never seen a 2 door classic before. Looks a good base. As far as engines go a Ford v8 would be cool but a zetec for running costs.

I have had a few V8 cars, but I want something that will handle relatively well and not nose heavy, thats one of the reasons why I have not shoved a pinto in it, or gone the old, but popular route of an Essex, I could put alloy heads on the SBF and get the weight down near to the Rover, but still too much weight and money involved, so... you are right.... Zetec, or possibly Duratec, even lighter

I also did not know that those ever came in two door configuration. Always considered the four door version to be the coolest looking English Ford ever made. Please most more pics and see if you can change my mind.

Well bought v8ian, lovely!!! Nearly had one myself in 4door flavour a few years ago, but having just scrapped a rusted out cortina, taking on something with more rot than that which id binned didn’t seem the best idea!🤔 Of course that’s before the ford scene tax........

Nice Funnily enough I saw one of these (looked like original yellow with a white roof) on the back of a lowloader coming out of Edinburgh a couple of days ago ( no pic, I was driving)

The 2 door Consul Classic has evaded me too, though i've had both a 4 door 1340 and a 1500 GT Consul Capri at about the same time. (1975) The Capri got a Lotus Twink courtesy of a rolled LC Police car that I bought from an Aylesbury Police pound auction for £175 (those were the days) and the 1500GT went in the more-door to replace the asthmatic and smokey 1340 it came with.
The Capri is near the top of the list of cars I should never have sold, but by the time i'd bought the 4 door Classic (For £15 if memory serves) i'd already been given my first MKII Zephyr, a 57 Hi-line which started a love affair with the 2553cc 6 banger that lasted me the best part of 20 years and encompassed 17 assorted MKII Zephyrs and Zodiacs including not one but two Automatic Zodiac estate cars (the "Farnham") and 8 MKIIIs. And a long stint as official tech adviser to the MKII CZZOC.
I can completely understand your unwillingness to disclose what you'd bought till it was on your drive! What a little honey!Back in 2007 , when I bought the Carledo, I was having a flirt with another Consul Capri, but it was more money than the Toledo and needed a LOT more work, the rest, as they say, is history!

Brings back many great memories, my dad had a pale blue 2 door 1500 classic from 1966 (when I came along) until the early 80's for most of that time it was our only car, we went to the south of france and all over the UK in it, it towed largish boats, tents and only never failed to get home.
They were heavy when comparred to cortinas, wuth a 2.0 I imagine it will go very well, how about a 2.0 duratec and later mx5 gearbox ( I believe they used the same engine).

What about a RS2000 16v engine from a mk5 Escort. They are front bowl sump. My mate has one in his Anglia and he has retained the steering box set up.
