Learned today of the passing a couple of days ago of Walter Treser, possibly more well known for his antics customizing various German automobiles but holds a hand in making Audi as a whole what it is renown for today.

"Walter Treser may need an introduction. An extraordinarily talented engineer. He was there at the birth of the Quattro concept. He was head of Advanced Special Vehicles for Audi from 1976 and then Project Manager of the Audi Quattro during the development. From 1980 – 1982 he was Head of Audi Sport overseeing the Quattro in the WRC. In 1982 Treser decided a new challenge was calling, he resigned from Audi and Treser Automobiltechnic und Design was founded specialising in engineering and styling of Audi cars. His previous experience with Audi and still working closely with the factory at Ingolstadt made Treser an instant success and quickly appointed agents in the States, Australia, Japan and the UK.
