Tamiya Haulers - Update day

With the National Gathering coming up fast, I was relived when this arrived. 20ft container 'display box'.





So we could crack on with this little plan. Nats yard. Will share some pics when we do our final setup.



But the container that wasn't a container?

Scale truck inception.


Also thought I'd spend ten minutes on the Unimog, get that up to standard.

Added a working front winch and replaced the headlight LEDs with warm white so they aren't green any more.



Added tail lights and a socket to the back and a proper winch controller for the crane so we can perform snatch-and-grabs hands free now.



Socket? Yea, I'm silly..





Added a hidden pin to stop the bed tipping accidentally. So that's all ready for the Nationals. I'm fairly sure the fleet is ready for action at this point!

I think you’ll approve of the plan for this one. Definitely taking a leaf out of your weathering book. May come badgering you for some tips after this weekend, you’ll be able to book in for the Nationals for 2024. Come show the shiny boys how it’s done 💪🏻

It’ll be a Rastar conversation. I only have a Dodge Ram pilot truck, Rob has a Landcruiser. Rastar make and made a lot of cool 1/14 RC cars, they did an Escalade too but that’s rare. Easy to convert to hobby rc, just install a steering servo in place of the motor steer and an ESC/RX and it’s away.

Absolutely sucked at getting photos this year at the Nats. Most of these are pinched from Elk, Corwin or Harry who we went with.

I've not been too hot at taking pictures recently as my camera phone is fubar, but I recently grabbed this Volvo wrecker chassis off a local club member to use under the Globe and also supply me with a second set of everythings to build a Mack Granite

Been back working on the big Globe recently. You’ll spot where I get a new phone in the ‘timeline’. Did a bit more trail fit of cab parts, might try to slim the grille back a bit as yet. 




Had some assistance during the build. He enjoys the garage but sadly it’s not easy supervising him and getting anything done. He’s way too into how things work and there’s a lot of stuff that I’m happy for him to play with but only while I’m watching (vice for example. Too easy for that to go wrong unattended)



I’d ordered a few bits direct from Bruder.de and I’ve started to convert the flat into a more heavy duty ‘backwoods home brew’ logging setup as I have a plan here.

Did you spot it? The new phone? Fairly obvious. Ok, back to it.

I had some plans afoot for other things too. Helper helped removing the old tandem suspension from the dry van. He was very good and putting the displaced nuts and bolts back in the holes in the old suspension.






To be replaced by Lesu airbag simulation units.

And second, in a mild spread-axle configuration 



the D12 Mini could not, however, get it rolling.. 



..so the appropriate equipment was called in

Moving on again. 5th wheel dolly? More plans afoot. It was bought very cheap as a donor of parts as it was 3D printed but not great. However, a bit of workshop time set that straight.
Made up a section of chassis to mount it to and reused most of the parts.









then back to the globe. I’d obtained some heavy duty tires. Cut the arches back as they were a visual bugbear to me. Roughly Mounted the fuel tanks, some air tanks, cab steps etc









Started some CAD..





Starting to get to where we need it to.

Both me and a friend are doing a COE, mine is quite restrained compared to his, he's going full K-Whopper K100C Aerodyne VIT, even moved the axle forward to get it right. He also has this which is right up your street other than being RC-Electric. Has a 'Neutral' gear so it can just sit and spin the flywheel which is a nice touch.

Here’s another ring ol’ pile up updates. AliExpress came though with a big old load of Knick-knacks and I got a pin hitch fitted to the Dodge to replace the standard Bruder trailer ‘hook’



Which lead to silliness and thus a scale reprimanding.



Heaviest combo I own. (Marginally) Heavier than my collie-husky cross dawg.



Got to take some pics with a friends stunning KW900 logger setup.









So also, forgot about this, ‘little’ fleet addition. Mercedes SK cab on I believe to be Scania chassis rails, in a 2x6 config. A good blank canvas.







The Tamiya cab lock and motor location was causing the cab to be distorted so pulled it all out and installed a metal cab-lock.



I’ll do some more build work on this in time when I get the wrecker a bit more close to finished.
