Hope this one has rotated. Fatal Force is indeed what you will face. My Brother bought a bike recently, and a little Pidgeon Poacher with scope. Early morning, around 06.00, getting ready to take my Mum and Dads ashes out to the family farm. Claire bravely up, when she should have been in bed, like one does on holiday. Harvards were the mainstay of SA's airforce training fleet for many years. Rat look anyone ? South African Homebrew, Stallion, many do service as Taxis, some are panel vans, and also pickups out there. One of the scurges of SA roads, one tonners with V6 type motors, usually fasr, and preying on high accident zones, to get a tow, done at stupid price, and often alligned wit, or owned by bodyshops..... business idea anyone ? Parked up at a service station for breakfast, my other retro..... almost 209000km, and still ticking like a swiss watch.

Sweet pics Grizz. what's your internery? Where are you atm?
Great pics, strange how much you can miss a place just by seeing pictures of everyday life there.
We daren't go anywhere near Africa or I know I'd never get back on the plane. Coming home from a holiday to friends in Kenya was the worst decision I have made in the last five years. Another trip to Africa and I's never return.
So many memories of so many of those cars. My wife had a 323 when I firat met her and we holidayed in the Berg in a Conquest.

Shortcut, it is a known fact that Africa NEVER leaves your bloodor your heart. In spite of 3 burglaries, and an armed robbery about 9 years ago, I did not leave, and came to the UK as a job transfer. I love the UK, and have no plan to move back, but you are right, it is not easy turning your back on the Dark Continent. We got back via Madrid at 10.30 today.....28-ish 'C to 1'C , what a change. There are just so many retros, and new built retros in SA, that that alone was good reasone for the trip.

Read sideways please.... One owner from new, my aunts.... look at the condition. In the same garage, VERY low miles..... just got sold, as owner died some years ago. Outdoor Panel repair and body shop. Came trucking past us at a pace.....Taxi. Try say that after a few beers.... ;D Sitting in ambush..... for safety??? It's a Rollover !!!My 1981 Mercedes Benz 200 rolls over to 209000km. Pretty much what was left of one of the wheels of the Ox-cart my mums father used to go to town with once a month from the farm. The same Oxwagon rolled over his one ankle when my mum was 8 years old, leading to an infection that killed him the same year.

Thanks Brian. It was a holiday, but I guess also a way to end an episode of my life. The T-Shirt I wore for the day was chosen specifically to suit the final internment of my parents, on the farm where my mum was born..... "Game Over"
Shortcut, that could be anywhere in Africa. Love the load lugger horse, What is it ??

OK... Sunday morning, slept like a dead man for 10 hours, only to be woken at 02.00 by someone looking for George.... Asshat ! So, we went to the family farm, to drop off my mum and dad. (mum died 11years ago, and we celebrate life, we do not mourn death, so it was a great day out.) The house was built in 1903, and originaly the family farmed mainly Tobacco, some wheat and oranges, as well as keeping a huge herd of cattle in the hills behind the lower farm. We went for a walk in the hills as well, my brother and I used to live there as kids in out summer holidays. Anyway, a few pics, then back to matters Automotive. Built in 1903. Wood burning stove, cement floors, and reed ceilings, huge verandah for those 35'C plus summer afternoons. One owner from new, done and paid its dues..... Massey Ferguson. Road into the hills where the cattle live. Used to go there for picnics on the trailer behind the tractor, better to walk ;D Walking the top road, not funereal dress How to get water to the side camps, no idea what the chassis is off, but it is typically home built and worked here for years. Brother and I , like old times...... in the hills, he is still the younger one, but looks old to me ;D. Geckos, love them. Back to cars.Body shop again. Carwash. Was going to do a thread on police/highway patol cars, but cannot be arsed. So they will be tossed inbetween. Toyota Stout. These are rare, and hard as nails. Though few are seen outside of rural areas. Appologies for the crappy pic, it was at 10xOptical, plus 4xDigital ZOOM. My brother also has less of an affinity for old cars and stuff as he is in the military engineering corps, so often has to fix stuff with ingeniuity, or bodgework. Nissan EXA Coupe, were they ever available in the UK ? 1400 turbo and non turbo IIRC. Older brother 120/140/160 Z still working dragging a trailer. These are getting rare and very coveted, so a good one is very good, and a bad one l;ike this one.

Some real Britishness at last.....Almost missed it, and my brother does not slow down. My cousin who now owns the farms first car, bought new, 1600GLS still ticking over nicely at 265000km. Constantly gets offers to purchase. But he is keeping it for his sone who is 8years old now. BARNFIND !!!!! Belongs to my cousin, harldy uses it now, wants to sell it, as the farming and a full time day job in prison service medical corps keeps him too busy to play. Car is in Pretoria, close to Johannesburg, so rustfree area. On the way home to my brothers place where we stayed in the military camp where he is based we stopped in a SPAR Butchers..... Claire with a "Texas Steak"long and wide as her fore arm, cost a fiver !!A few carpark, nightime spots...... With all prices , divide by 14 toget approximate UK ££'s price.

Awesome thread Grizz. I love these spotting/story threads. It seems like a scary place. Thanks, and we are but 30% into the pics I have saved after all the editing. Took about 2000 pics in 2 weeks, felt like a Japanes tourist. Scary.... sort of, bur I only suggest being streetwise, and you will be fine. People of all races are great, friendly and helpful.

Excellent! Great pics Grizz, I'd love to go to SA one day, heard nothing but nice things from people who've been. BTW, what year is this MF tractor? I've been asked to refurbish a 1960 model by a guy who's father bought it new. Just wondered if it looked like this one as I've not been to see it yet. One owner from new, done and paid its dues..... Massey Ferguson.

Note the variety of alloys on this old bus. Not at all unusual, sometimes 4 steels and alloys all mixed. Brothers girlfriends 2 dogs, "Slobber and Slime" they think they are lap dogs. Just like big babies.... bloody nuisance. New Nissan Tiida, yes spelling is correct Tiida, has replaced Almera. Got to know a hatchback quite well as our rental car for 1000miles from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth. Next pic is a Saloon and Hatch next to each other. front pics later. Flew with " www.1Time.com " cheap, but nice airlines from Johannesburg to Cape Town, and then from Port Elizabeth to Johannesburg.... Total ticket price was £66 each for Claire and I. Unlike Europe and the rest of this MAD world, the pilots still leave the door open, and let a passenger sit in the jump seat, I was offered the spot for taking the pics, but declined as another passenger was there already.

Opposition airline www.kulula.com has a great advertising slogan to run with this Cammo plane..... "No one saw us comming" Nissan Tiida at airport rental in Cape Town. Front end. Health and Safety , My Rssss !! Mother and baby in the rear. Cape Town Waterfront (Victoria and Albert Waterfront) with Table mountain in the background. Fully functional harbour, currently servicing from what we could see 4 oilrigs, and a multitude of other maritime craft. Claire and I had late lunch here. Lunch included drinks, large starters, she had mussels in garlic and lemon cream sauce, and the main we both had were known as "Prince prawns" as the King prawns are seriously HUGE! Meal, including 25% (my choice) tip less than £20.00. Think I was busy texting Briandamaged ;D what Lunch looked like. Especially posed for OLDBUS !!Hi Ho Hi Ho.... off to work they go.... MOT...?? Whatcha mean... it's in front of you innit? Another VW, I would love to own. View from our bedroom in Wynberg, Cape Town. We stayed with friends, as one generally does in South Africa. I had hurt a few friends's feelings by not spending a night or two with them. First evening in Cape Town, at Houtbay watching the sunset. The first house I designed, and had the shell of built. From sanding floors, building internal stairs, painting ceilings, walls, tiling, built in cupboards, etc....I used to lay bricks at 11pm after work with a bedside lamp on an extension cord when developing and excavating by hand under the house. Had 180' valley and sea views. Getting groceries in up the mountainside was a curse word though. Breakfast, 3 egg ommelete in Simonstown harbour...... size in Africa does count.

Following on our Breakfast, we went to Cape Point, which for those who do not know, is NOT the southern most point of Africa. Cape Aughulas up the East coast actually is, but then it does not have any tourist type street cred. We did the climb to the light, saw the two oceans meet, and got blown about by the "Cape Doctor" as the wind is know down there. After that it was back to retro spotting for me. Looking back Patina?? Dinner with my cousin, who restores and sell Eddie Lawson replicas, I took him some spares that he could not find for love nor money, so the UK delivered ;D he was a very happy man to say the least. Cavendish shopping centre entrance in Claremont..... very POSH ! In the carpark..... Another of those recovery trucks.... note the canopy, to camouflage the rear kit. Feckers... everywhere, especially in high accident zones, waiting for a tow.
