Good suggestions, I had already looked at that e28, which is lovely but I don't think a 1.8 4 cylinder would cut it compared to a Jag v12, I'm not really a fan of Mercs in general, the CROWN is amazing though, Ive never even heard of one!

Slightly over budget is a very nice SA import BMW E3 3.0S (don't know much about them, but looks awesome) www.carandclassic.com/car/C1422668

It occoured to me that I hadnt updated this thread, I actually ended up buying two cars, by accident, I spotted a Daimler Double Six on an auction site, looked lovely and there were videos of it driving so I put down a starting bid expecting it to sell for twice what I bid, I then spotted an E39 540, I really fancied this so went down to Birmingham and bought it, the following day I got an email to say I was the only person to bid on the Daimler so Id won that also! The BMW was very good, got the sills properly fixed but kind of lost interest and sold it 4 months later, I still have the Daimler, it needed a good service and the injection system overhauled, now running perfectly, I bought a Discovery for work to replace my pickup and currently have one too many cars for my storage space so either the truck or the Daimler have to go, I don't believe in making life easy for myself! Daimler, for sale maybe 540, sold Disco MG Chevy, for sale Brown Figaro, also for sale

As an aside, is putting in folding frames into the M3 a big no-no? I'm guessing it still has the rear seats . Sure, it will be limited by how much the seats can go forward, but at least it will make access easier .

I used Brey Krause mounts as they work with the standard runners so you can retain electric forward and backward adjustment, I assumed fully forward would be enough to get access to the rear seat, I can just squeeze in but I couldn't ask anyone else to do it!
