Up for sale is this 1996 BMW 740i V8 Automatic (E38) in Oxford Green.
It is a 1996-built car, first registered January '97. It has currently about 148 thousand miles and MOT until 28th May '22.
The paintwork is metallic Oxford Green, in good condition with no major scrapes or lacquer peel etc. It polishes up pretty well. The bodywork is very good with no rust concerns, and no dents. It's a very straight car and has no sign of ever being damaged. The rear lights are good (usually faded & cracked) and it also has electric folding mirrors, a rare option, which are fully functional.
The mechanicals start with the very robust M62B44 engine, a 4.4 litre V8 that pushed out 286bhp when new and still drives like it's all there. The mileage is around 148k - it had 146k at the MOT last May, but the clocks were failing and have since been replaced with a set with 119k showing. The original set is included, for future repair. The 5-speed automatic/tiptronic gearbox is seamless as expected. The suspension is all in good order including the rear springs (common failure) which were replaced a couple of years ago. It drives competently and quietly, and returns a smidge over 30mpg on a motorway commute. It has been recently serviced as well, but as for the history, that has been lost by the previous owner.
The interior is Sand Beige leather, with heated electric front seats and a full-size leather armrest. There are electric windows and mirrors, and there is a CD player with AUX fitted behind the hideaway flap. The A/C is a bit temperamental, but it blows hot and clears the windscreen fast. Mainly the heater box doesn't like adjusting the ventilation direction between feet/face/windscreen. The driver's seat a bit tired but being heated definitely makes up for it. The rest of the seats are in good shape. The MID info display doesn't work as the wiring has been changed to suit a modern CD player (or Android, as was previously fitted).
The wheels are original E38 Style 60 16"s and fitted with new tyres about 18 months ago.
There is also LPG fitted, which works, but when it is switched on, it causes a small coolant leak at the back of the engine. So it hasn't been used since the MOT when that was discovered. If that is fixed, the lower cost of LPG would result in an equivalent to about 45-50mpg!
Key plus points: MOT, good tyres, heated seats, drives good.
Things to consider: No service history, annoying heater, worn interior.
Overall it is a good car and would really suit being used as a daily as you don't need to be too precious about it. It isn't just up to the collector level of put it away in a shed, so you can enjoy it without too much concern. There's no pressing issues with it, it's ready to be used, just factor in that it's a 25 year old car and isn't perfect.
It can be seen, and maybe test-driven at my discretion, in the Dungannon area. The price is £3995 firm. Any questions just get in touch.
(More photos available but I don't want to use up bandwidth unnecessarily.)
