I am in Liverpuddle! Keys dropped in with reception and got a hotel booked just in case anything runs over into tomorrow. There were a wide variety of LTI's here, from TX1's all the way through to LEVC ones... no FX4's that I could see.

Well that was expensive
How much for some peace of mind though?
I shan't say how much it cost me but here's how it worked out in Liverpool...
I've got a new steering box so the taxi steers nicely now, and no holding the wheel at an angle to go in a straight line. Loads of suspension bits got sorted, ball joints, track rod ends, blah... front to rear brake pipe replaced, wheel bearings adjusted.
In the less good news they couldn't get the air conditioning working, the pipes are worn through and they're not made any more. Could I probably sort this myself? Perhaps but I'm of the mindset that I should just cope. They also found the reason for the ECU throwing some error codes and that's probably the timing chain tensioner. After speaking to the service guys they said that they've seen much worse and I can clear the codes with Forescan to restore the full fuelling mode when the engine is warm.
All in all, I'm ready for the trip, a month ahead of schedule... might put some more of my @bangertobergerac stickers on it somewhere...

Also, another thought, I'll be selling this in September (I don't want to but Mrs Horncastle really dislikes it) and it'll be a well sorted vehicle, so if anyone is interested, keep that thought in your mind* *and yes I've done the glowplugs so winter will be fine

16 days to go until I set off.... very little to do on the Taxi now, have a fettle with the third rear brake light AGAIN which I will need to practise my meditation for (last time I nearly put the back window through in anger)... only one bulb of four comes on...
I've also ordered a cheap microphone for the stereo so should I need to make a phone call at the wheel I can do that without shouting at the phone..
On the subject of spares, I've got
Oil Coolant Transmission/PS fluid Brake fluid Accelerator cable Thermostat Spare EGR valve Spare serpentine belt OBD scanner for investigating/clearing codes Bulbs Fuses All the France basics like triange, yellow vest, breatherlyser...
Anything else I should be taking with me? Tow rope? Rosary beads? Statue of St Christopher?
I'm thinking I should get a radiator hose repair kit...

Tow rope Jump leads Emergency blanket (one of the foil ones cheap in GoOutdoors)
If you're going out into the wilds maybe a hand winch...

Good shout on the emergency blanket thank you! I'm only going to be on autoroutes (and a touch of Autobahn) so don't think I'll need a winch..
...If I need a winch I think the taxi can stay where it is!

Of all of the jobs I've done on this thing, the most rewarding was yesterday.... the high level brake light has four bulbs inside, and only one of them comes on. Not a major thing and not even an MOT failure (I believe) so could have just left it.... BUT NO I am a pedant I attempted this a few weeks ago and made a pigs ear of it, so out came the intercom speaker again and the bulb contacts cleaned up and bent slightly. Trusty yard brush used to press brake pedal down and I now have all four lights on! Oh and I fitted a cheap fan off Amazon which is about as effective as a hot puppy breathing on your face. 9 days until I set off!

You did the right thing to fix the light.
Puppy breath? Always loved it.
Going to be an awesome trip.

I hope so! I drove the taxi to the office today (always gets some odd looks from the security team who think I am there to collect a fare) and it drives well. I need to remember to clear the EGI fault codes when the engine is up to temperature so it unlocks full fuelling mode...

Who's got two thumbs and made it to Bergerac and back in the taxi? THIS GUY Other than the horn not working very well when the air temperature got to 40 degrees, the taxi did not miss a beat. Setting off from Dover After doing a lap of the Sarthe circuit Official groom transport for my friend Dave in Bergerac Looking out longingly at the Nurburgring Nordschleife (it was closed at last minute for a private event!!) Plenty more pictures on Instagram (you don't need to sign up to see them) As the purpose of the taxi has been fulfilled, it is now for sale...
