I had the ARB bushes issue on mine. Went through all the same head scratching as you and even got the bushes from Latvia (they're still in the drawer in the garage!). In the end, I went for a dab of Tigerseal on each bush - movement eliminated - MOT passed and no problems. The early V70 equivalent didn't even have an ARB so not sure what having one brought to the XC70 party.
