Jaguar X300 XJ6 3.2 Litre
1997 'P' Registration
4 Speed Automatic
Carnival Red Metallic
Oatmeal Leather Interior
12 Months MOT until April 2023
For sale is a Jaguar XJ6 3.2 Auto. This chassis is referred to as the X300 model, and known the be the most durable of all the XJs with the bullet proof engines.
The car was owned by an elderly gent who sadly passed away a few years back, and his family kept the Jag in dry storage. They recently had to give up storage and hence decided to sell this on.
It had no MOT since 2017, the tyres were perished from sitting a long time and the battery was completely dead. Due to the time off-road, it would have benefited from a service.
Since purchase, it has had a new Yuasa Heavy Duty Battery, New Dunlop SP Winter Tyres x 4, an Oil & Filter Service and now a 12 Month MOT.
Specification includes:
Carnival Red Metallic with Full Oatmeal Leather Interior, 16" Dimple Alloy Wheels, Electric Front Seats, Burr walnut Steering Wheel, Leather-Stitched Steering Wheel, Leather-Stitched Centre Console, Burr Walnut Trim, Air Conditioning, Digital Climate Control, Electric Windows x 4, Power Steering, Trip Computer, Central Locking, Alarm & Immobiliser, Sunglasses Holder, Space Saver Spare Wheel, Front Fog Lamps
Just passed its MOT, with a few advisories which will be detailed below within the description. No horror stories on there, and the MOT history is generally very good, with no signs of major issues. Emissions and brakes were fine.
The car is mechanically sound, and drives like an XJ should. It starts first time, and idles fine. Throttle cable has been adjusted as the idle was slightly higher. There is no overheating. No fluid leaks. It gets to the optimum temperature and sits there. Excellent Oil Pressure. OSR exhaust back box has a slight blow (as per MOT advisory).
'AJ16’ / 3239cc / Straight Six / 24 Valve / 216 BHP / 140+ MPH
It has the legendary and robust 'AJ16" 3.2 litre straight-six engine. This has plenty of power and low-down torque. I have had a fair few of these, but this one in particular is very lively. Pulls well throughout the rev range all the way to the red line, with no hesitation or power loss. These six cylinder units can trace their blood line back to the 50s Jags, and will go on forever if maintained correctly.
The gearbox is good and the gears change as they should. Jaguar really did get the gearboxes good. Goes through all the ratios fine and kicks down with no vibrating.
Suspension is ok. It does have knocking noises from the rear - sounds like top shock mounts or some bushes need replacing. On smooth roads it is fine, but on uneven surfaces it does knock a bit.
For a large car, it still handles impressively well and you can confidently throw it into corners at speed. It's no Lotus Elise, but will surprise you with how it behaves.
The brakes are fine. They stop this car well and there is no noticeable shuddering or pulling to one side.
Brand new matching set of Dunlop Winter tyres, 225/55/16.
Being an upmarket model, it is built to a high quality standard and you can appreciate this from the fit and finish. It is a pleasure to drive and long journeys are completed with ease - you get out at the other end feeling refreshed. Anyone who goes for a spin in the car always give positive comments about how it drives and also on the classic appearance of the interior.
Everything works as it should, which is to be expected from a car which cost over £40k when new. There are currently no warning lights on the dashboard cluster.
The car is in presentable condition, but it does suffer from the usual defects from this era and colour of XJ: the roof paint has grazed and gone flat. There are some flat spots and marks on the bonnet and on the offside door tops. Rear arches have some very light bubbling. Front wings are pretty solid. Driver's door has a small dent. Remarkably, there is no other rust or rot on the body - it is solid, especially compared to many others out there. There are marks, blemishes and stone chips as to be expected on a 20 year old car. The bumpers have a few scuffs. It is not new or perfect and would benefit from a good polish, but still looks special and classy - no one would think you paid less than £2k for this lump of metal! Being honest, it looks better in the photos than it does close up, in the flesh - so come and have a look if you are interested.
Remember, the paintwork is easier to rectify than repairing rust issues. And most of these X300s have lots of rust, especially on the rear arches, sills and front wings. Of all the Jags I have had, this is one if the cleanest in terms of corrosion - the body is pretty much rot free. Also - this was a pretty common colour, so you shouldn't struggle to find replacement panels at a decent price on eBay.
I took a few photos of the sills and underneath of the car when it was on the ramp for its MOT, and it is very good underneath. It has surface corrosion as per the MOT advisory, but most cars will have this, especially at this age.
Finished off with a set of lovely and genuine Jaguar 16" 'Dimple' Alloy Wheels. These are almost immaculate, they really suit the car and can sell for upwards of £400 a set on eBay!
The interior of this car is in good order, but the driver's seat is worn and torn on the bolster area (ideally, this needs replacing). You can get a replacement front seat for cheap online, and these are easy to swap. You can't really see the seat when you are driving the car, and quite often if gets hidden by the pillar when stationary! For a temp solution, just get a seat cover, if this bothers you that much. Everything is tight and solid. The seats are comfortable, and the front ones adjust electrically. The door cards and dash top are in good condition, with no untoward marks.
There is an abundance of wood and leather everywhere, as well as some nice chrome touches. LCD clock doesn't work (show me one that does!). Headlining is in good condition compared to most others.
Grab a bargain - prices of decent X300s are steadily increasing, and won't be this money for long. Offers near the asking price will be considered, but silly ones will be ignored. This is a hell of a lot of car for the money and it still looks at home even in Central London.
Comes with: 1 x Key & Remote Fob, Jaguar Leather Folder, XJ User Manual and Handbooks, Service Booklet, MOT Certificate, V5 Logbook
Good previous service history - Jaguar Main Dealer and Jaguar Specialist stamps until 2010. She has been looked after during her life and not been used much over the past 10 years (only done around 10k miles in that time).
