2001 Saab 9-3 2.0t SE Convertible automatic
98,000 miles
MOT to 12/11/2022
This has been my dad’s car for the past few years. I have been borrowing the car for the past 6 months to use as a back-up family car while my Saab 9000 is undergoing work. I no longer need the car and he has decided to thin down his fleet so it is up for sale. The car will still be in use and will not be available to drive away until Monday 11th July, although viewings are welcome before this date.
Mechanically the car is very strong and never fails to start. It runs and drives without fault, the gearbox changes gear positively and smoothly, and the car feels surprisingly eager in low-speed acceleration. The combination of soft suspension, the smooth engine and automatic gearbox make for a very comfortable and relaxing drive, if not sporty. The car had a steering rack brace fitted many years ago so it does not suffer with the typical bulkhead cracking. The brakes were replaced a couple of years ago and have plenty of life left. It retains the original wind blocker.
All electronics in the car work without fault as does the roof mechanism. The car benefits from the usual Saab refinements of the period; cruise control, automatic climate control, electric windows all round, night panel, etc.
Cosmetically the car could do with some TLC and would make a nice project for someone or use as is for cheap summer top-down motoring. The interior is tired and could do with a deep clean and some replacement parts, however thre rear seats are in excellent condition and very supple. Boot unlock only works off the key fob. The ‘Service Theft Alarm’ message regularly appears on starting the car, this is a common fault which does not affect use. The paintwork has gone flat on the tops of the passenger side panels, extending around the passenger side of the front and rear bumpers. The windscreen has a chip but this happened years ago, it has not got any worse and does not fail the MOT. The exhaust backbox has a small leak as picked up as an advisory on the MOT. The blue mohair roof has a few scuffs at the pressure points but is still water tight. Three of the tyres lose air over the week and could probably do with being replaced within a year or two. The car would benefit from having an alignment.
If of interest I also have a set of Saab 9-5 ALU55 style alloy wheels for sale. These would also require new tyres and would benefit from a refurb.
Overall, a cheap project for someone or a reliable convertible for the summer.
Asking price is £800 or come and make an offer.
