I think we have managed to curse word ourselves quite happily without the EU…. Anyway not a digression we need, was just trying to make the point that from a be good to the environment way that they don’t need anymore help than other critters really. But as others have said the laws are there and are worth being aware of. James

coming along, for the concrete if you have a SDS drilling a hole right through every 6" or so helps it to break more cleanly.

dusty day today.... ppe was on point ! i found weirdness .. then more weirdness.. i managed to reach earth between the pipes of mystery .. thats 10" deep . no idea what all the pipes are about , local farming friend was also confused . after lunch , mr c arrived and we did a fit of brick paving , realising there were white bricks and black bricks in the supplies i went for a natty checkered effect .. now we just had to lever/push the behemoth in there .. got her lined up and heave ho .. job done ! i treated myself to grilled feta on toast to celebrate .. and ,lastly, i am really enjoying my new windows , check out the sunlit garden view through the bay window .. regards robert

hey robert, awesome progress again as usual, when i saw those clay pipes, i first thought, old land drains, but wouldnt expect concrete? so must be some drains from a previous building? theres also other possibilities, but the fact there currently dry rules out them diverting a spring possibly towards your well? or depending on where they are they could actually be overflow from your well? or another drain, or even a seasonal spring or flood point! maybe try and follow there direction both ways? don't think ive ever seen one of those jensens in the metal, the later interceptors yes, but not the early ones. another project ill look forward to following!

Thanks SM , it's 3 acres away from the well , but good idea , they are about 14" higher in the ground than the drain outside in the summer house , so very weird . i was wondering if there were just stuck in there to make up space, so less concrete was used , or, if the barn was used for livedstock , maybe a surface drain that got covered when a new 3" layer of concrete was put down . anyrdup, i'll carry on digging and see whats further across the floor , maybe a central drain box . i also had never seen one of these 541R jensens , i'm still amazed they could do near on 130 mph with only 150 bhp .

The clay pipes look very clean like they have never been used, I wonder if was some odd bits they had lying around that got thrown in as hardcore under the base.

Have you tried rodding the pipes to see if they actually go any distance in either direction?

They could be secret WW2 rocket launcher tubes Sadly ,,no . ;( As you know i had an exploratory dig , and this taught me i might as well hire the hammer bonker machine , so yeaterday i popped into the local hire place and got the 'hammerbonker 6000". started at 230 , and did 4 hours of hammr bonking till 630 ...by which time i was pooped , and my lower back was sending out offensive messages to the control centre and no mistake . got to here .. it turns out i had 3 invhes of clean newish concrete , thats what the disc cutter cut through , then under that was another 3 to 6 inches of grey blue green concrete with the terracotta pipes embeded in . so i had to chip away the top layer twice to get it all broken , then rake and sweep that away , and wheelbarrow it off behind the summer house , then hammer into the next layer and the pipes . i asked mr c for a hand this morning and he popped round and it was so much quicker with two people loading the wheel barrow , and in another hour it was all gone .. you can see how thick the bottom layer was , and the strange pipes here .. they appear to dead end about a ft or two in, and the other ends just dissapeared near the far end of the hole , my guess is they are there simply to reduce the amount of concrete needed . now to get another 9" down , but it seems soft soil so should be easy ! famous.last.words ... regards robert

Thanks Phillip ! well , unusually for me,i decided to work on saurday ,and with a bit of help from another nearby victim , we'll call him "the major" i dug out the earth needed to succeed.. it was quite easy digging . it still needs levelling and scraping down to the full 4" below the dyno depth , then i have to decide on home made or delivered concrete , thing is i only need 0.4 of a metre . we spread the soil on the low side of the drive .. i am building this up to rd level so the larger planes ,you know the big Boeing's (at least the ones where the safety doors have bolts on) , can turn around with no ground vehicles needed . the concrete from the hammerfest was dumped on the land drain here .. and i can sort out the big bits and rake it flat later . on another topic , check out the bruising from the HammerBonker 6000 ! no ,thats not a picture from the fetish site "Bruises.com". (don't look it up ) that's my poor leg ! on another other topic ,my solar panels feed into the grid so far this year is thus .. each month total in bars . and I'm on 15 pence per unit . regards robert
