I’m selling my 1999 Alfa Romeo 156 with a 3.0 Busso V6 engine in Africa Grey with ~150K miles. I have bought the car in June 2020 as a lockdown project, but I need to cut down the number of cars now due to an upcoming house move. MOT until June 2023. More photos on Google Photos album and I have also set up a FB page for the car when I bought it.
The car was engine swapped with a 3.0 V6 from a GTV, and fully recommissioned by Autolusso North before I bought it with a lot of preventative maintenance done, specifically had new belts and idlers, water pump, clutch and flywheel, spark plugs, starter motor and alternator, brake lines as well as all the fluids changed. While the car was apart, I have asked Dan to fit a Quaife LSD, front and rear GTA anti roll bars, GTA oil cooler and a GTA short shifter. I have attached a photo of the work summary.
The 156 has a CDA air intake with a washable BMC filter as well as a Cybex stainless exhaust, so it’s a little loud but sounds really good with no droning. It has also been lowered with Eibach springs and Koni shock absorbers, but the ride is very good and reasonably smooth over bumps - much better than any of my "sports" cars ever were.
Since the purchase, I have improve the engine bay by cleaning the injectors, replating the fuel rail and glass blasting/paiting the engine covers. I have also replaced the rear shocks (common for braking the spring cups) and the catalytic converter (OEM from a 60K donor car). Inside the car I have fitted a low mileage tan interior (no rips or marks) and a new old stock wooden wheel (I have the original leather one too), as well as cleaned, protected and soundproofed floor panels and doors. More recently I have powder coated the 16” teledial wheels (fitted with Goodyear tires) and repainted brake calipers. If close to asking price, I will also include new Koni front shocks and TRW suspension arms (around £400 new), although the car doesn't need them yet.
I have used the car as a daily driver for several months and it has been supremely reliable, even by modern car standards. I have garaged it over last two winters, but it hasn't come out much in 2022. Mechanically it is very sound with all the big jobs done (belts will be due in 2 years) and structurally it is solid although it has quite a bit of welding in the past. The paintwork lets it down a bit, since the roof suffers from laquer peel and most panels have some scratches.
Car is located in Basingstoke and I’m happy for any serious test drives provided you’re insured for it. Let me know if you have any questions, there’s bound to be things I have missed. Thanks!
