Evening all First, the boring pre-amble.
Having been working in the finance sector since leaving college during the global recession/credit crunch, I had a total career change in February and went into the motor trade. Have always been into cars and now get to spend every day with tonnes of them, so it was only a matter of time before one ended up coming home with me. Work have quite strict rules in place to prevent staff from become driveway traders on the sly so I knew when I eventually caved in and bought, it'd have to be something a bit different.
Now, I don't "need" another car, I've already got 2 cars, 1 van and a company car, as well as the wifes car, but sometimes you just have to have something and when I saw this had been traded in and how much for, it was a no brainer
Anyway, my new project car is................................
A 1998 Vauxhall Omega Elite 3.0 V6 Auto 43k miles with Full Dealer Service History apart from the most recent service which was carried out by an independent garage

Now the plan was to buy it and hammer it around as a cheap track car, but it really is probably a bit too nice for that and they seem to be worth a fair bit more than I paid for it, so I'm more than likely going to mint it up and then keep it until something else comes along. The list is so far small but will only get longer I imagine. Replace cracked N/S tail lampRepair/Replace rear towing eye cover- A good clean and polish inside and out
- Lube the sunroof so it closes without outside help
- Lube the headlight washer jets so they retract without outside help
- Replace intermittently floppy bonnet struts
- Adjust bonnet catch cable
- Check to see if any oil weeping onto exhaust manifold as I'm told it's common on these and would explain the odd time I can smell something similar
- Proper colour coding of the after market rear park sensors
Hunt down a CD to get the "satnav" "working"- Replace the blown bulb in one of the climate control screens
I've not ruled out the modifying route with coilovers, wheels etc, but I'm trying to not get too carried away

It doesn't feel like long ago that these were everywhere.. Always loved a V6 omega, nearly bought one as a slidey drifty toy. Good job with this one, looks fairly mint!

Nice buy! I've got a '98 Vectra V6 in Jungle Green - is yours the same colour? I think it's paint code L359. forum.retro-rides.org/thread/219310/1998-vectra-cd-v6-australia?page=3I've always loved the Omega, was pretty much a dream car for 18 year old me back in the late 90s but I could never afford to buy or run one before I moved Down Under. The Commodore out here is pretty similar (I think it was slightly scaled up design) but I find it hard to get that excited about them probably because they're still everywhere and were never really the luxury flagship the Omega was.

My dad had one of these in the late 90’s and I still remember enjoying every road trip in it, in no small part due to the grin inducing V6 rumble when kicked down. That ones looks really tidy

Couple of jobs ticked off today Got the rear towing eye cover fitted properly. Thought it was cracked but on closer inspection, the hole looks like the original design Also located the disc holder for the GPS in the boot. Discovered there was a disc in there ableit a bit scratched. Gave it a clean and....... Not sure I'll ever be relying on it getting me anywhere Gave the boot floor and carpet a good hoover and refitted the carpet correctly Gave the interior a quick hoover and wipe down too

Had the car on a ramp at work today. Not that I know what I'm doing Really happy with how clean and solid it was underneath. Cleaned off the little traces of oil to try and work out where it might be coming from but there was so little, it's tricky to tell. The only place it was visible was the bottom of the front subframe, the bottom of the sump and a few dots on the alternator. Wonder if it's a weeping sump plug as couldn't see any oil higher up. Lad I work with used to work on them back in the day so will get him on the case. Pay day monday so will be ordering a few bits

Always had a soft spot for these. Always aspired to a BMW powered diesel one. Love the plans but wonder if a 5 spoke structural steel off an insignia banded on the rear would be the go. There was a maroon Carlton estate on here some years back that wore some to great effect.

Replacement lamp arrived and fitted Suspect the birds near work had something to eat that hadnt agreed with them as the car was a mess so gave it a quick bath Also had a quick go with a synthetic clay bar. Feels different to use than a normal clay bar, but also dealing with 25 year old paint thats probably been neglected. Need to get the car inside so I can do the whole car and give it a polish too. Also want to get the wheels off to clean them properly

Bit of a disappointing update. Went to start the car and it seems the battery has gone totally flat, not the end of the world. What with one thing and another a few weeks passed by until I've gone to jump start it this morning. Door lock was really stiff trying to get in as obviously the remote central locking was dead. Looked further to try and work out why its suddenly gone stiff and looks like some scrote has either had a go at getting into the car or has intentionally tried to damage the door lock by pushing it in on an angle Tomorrow's plan of giving it a further clean and taking it out for a run have now changed to sourcing and fitting a new battery, hoping that the immobiliser hasn't been affected by the battery drain/door lock issue so I can at least get the car home and then set about removing the door card to hopefully sort the door lock out
