Hi folks,
Occasional RRG attender and casual retro nugget enjoyer (Del Sol and K10 Micra owner) here.
I'm looking for a 'disposable' winter daily, a car that's basicsally soul-less, cheap but probably isn't going to break or rust massively. ideally sub £1,000 (preferably sub £750, which is roughly what I'd have to spend on fixing rust/paint on my Accord if driven through the winter).
Crucial info is that I'm 6ft 6 with size 15 feet, so 106/Saxos are out of the question among other things with comically small pedals.
What would you buy and why?...if you can get an classified ad link or whatever in there, you're an actual hero.
Cheers, Beardless

If I were in that position, I'd be looking at Hyundai and Kia models in petrol flavour (only because I have a dislike of dizzle engines)
Possibly even Toyota Yaris or Corolla/Auris models

Interesting thought, will have a look at those! I did also have a look at a pretty cheap, allegedly one owner from new, Daewoo Matiz but I feel like I'd hate it a bit too much.
A couple of £600-1000 E46s are available too, including a 215,000 mile 320d Touring for £600 which almost seems too good to be true.

Lupos are actually one of the most spacious cars around inside. I’m 6’4” and size 12 and find them roomy compared to most other things.

I saw said Liana at RRG...kudos for doing something different with it!
In the end, I've actually managed to score a bit of a deal from a friend...Mk2 Caddy (1.9 TDI ALH) with a fresh MOT. Looking forward to running that on a mix of diesel and veg oil/chip fat.
Forces me to try owning a VAG thing, it's 40 shades of lacquer peel so it'll be rattle canned at some point too.
Who knows, might even get a little build thread?

I wouldn't be too picky on the car TBH.
I'd look at -Condition -Servicing (mainly things like the cambelt being done if it has one etc.)
For your money, it's going to be a struggle to buy a car you can depend on. A friend of mine had some cars in mind, and we saw some truly awful cars, despite the sellers assuring us they were good.
If it were me, I'd be looking at a Mk3 Mondeo petrol. I wouldn't touch the diesels with a barge pole at this price. Mk4 I'd also take a look at and the diesel engines in those in 2.0 form are sturdier, being the DW10 unit from PSA (again, cambelts). You'll get a sound Mk4 for the money, but it will be a shocker on the body and the interior. The 1.8 TDCi I'd leave unless you know the trickier wet belt has been changed.
You may get a reasonable Saab 9-3 for that money. I may be selling my dad's soon which bar a slipping clutch at times (high boost, as it's been remapped), is a very good car, and is sound elsewhere. It would be a little more than your budget however. Some parts are tricky to get for it as well. General servicing parts seem to be OK
