Just brought a car that doesn't even have a steering lock!
What's the best physical anti theft device? Something that'll deter even thieves using a transporter?
Thanks
Andy

Depends what it is, if it's a Landrover there are loads of aftermarket security devices, some of these can be adapted to or give you ideas for other cars as well, if you always park it in the same place you can chain it to something, or park something modern in front of it, the old trick of removing the rotor arm will stop it being driven away, reality is if someone really wants it they will find a way, all we can do is slow them down.

A secure garage
A hidden tracker probably pretty useful too.

Probably unlikely with retros, but if they really want it they'll come and ask you directly (and not politely)
I think that only really happens if it's one of the newer breed of "getaway" cars, fast four door things, or a serious classic worth proper monies

A few years ago, car thieves were trawling my neighbourhood with a car transporter! Had already taken a few cars during the early hours and tried to steal the Sprite I had at the time. Luckily the thief, being both a idiot and someone who didn't know about classic cars, was trying to start it with the wires he'd pulled out of the steering column, the indicator/flasher wires! The baker at work in his shop opposite, spotted him squatted down by the car and called the police, who arrived and caught the gang red handed, Sweeny Todd style. I got a rollocking for not locking a car which had it's roof held on Lift the Dot Fastners, but at least the muppet who tried to steal it didn't cut the roof, because it was unlocked.

You did the right thing. No point locking a convertible.

park something modern in front of it My Hilux was stolen a couple of years ago, my 'modern' 306 was parked across the drive in front of it. They smashed the dash and steering lock on the truck, then put the drivers window through on the car to let the handbrake off and push it out of the way... They didn't get far but I was left with a truck with a ruined dash and a car with no window. In December. It had a 'Stoplock' steering lock on too, which just mullered the steering wheel when they smashed it off. They got away but not in my truck, it now has proper security, but if they want it they will take it. Incidentally a stolen pickup was used to remove a cash machine 2 nights later not far from us... A disklock is a good deterrent but difficult to store while driving. Edit.. fat load of good that was!⬇

I've got a disklok as a physical deterrent and land rover style pedal box cover. Both are bulky and annoying but hopefully should the worst happen it'll slow someone down at least.
Anyone had any luck with a budget friendly tracker? (something simple without a hefty subscription)

One cheap anti theft which worked was a hidden switch in the electric fuel pump wiring, car (if on carbs!) will start and run for a while, then conks out, won't restart. The thief will panic (because no-one likes to hold up traffic!) and abandon the car.
Had to walk round the corner to rescue the aforesaid sprite more than once, the carbs had just enough fuel to get the car to a stop in front of the fire station!
This car will get one too. But would like extra security.

^^^^ a hidden switch for the fuel stop solenoid on an older diesel has a similar effect, but obviously without the starting bit.

Claymore under the drivers seat with pull wire attached to the door so you know to open and unclip before opening to get full access? What do you mean ' A bit excessive'

Joking aside, the old milk/beer bottles tied to a trip wire is a good alarm. No one gives burglar or car alarms any thought, but breaking glass is different.
You just need to remember not to trip it yourself every time you nip in the side door to the garage to get fish fingers out the freezer or whatever.

I've got a Bulldog pedal lock - locks brake and clutch together and holds both off the floor. Quick to fit, quick with a key to get off once you get used to it.
Probably removeable without a key, but a lot more awkward and time consuming than wrenching off a steering wheel lock.
i have a Bisley alarm mine . . . fires blank shotgun cartridge . . . I keep thinking up in the headlining by the front seats . . .fishing line pull cord through the back seat, out the boot, clipped to the gate . . . but you can be sure I would forget to unclip it . . .

As stated they will take it if they want it badly enough. We do vehicle security a lot.My personnel choice would be a wheel clamp (dvla type) with noises chains.Majority of vehicles are taken at night so kill switch the light circuit.Alarms only bother people but generally thieves kill the siren very quickly and people are just glad that the noise has stopped. As said above a ‘bulldog’ is good personally we have an American one 2 years old and 45 kilos.
