So, he's 13, likes cars and is always showing an interest / wants to help when I'm tinkering in the garage so I've picked up this for him 1 owner from new (retired fella), 40k miles and zero modifications. It wants a bit of attention in places but thats the whole point, its going to be his project and learning curve. Hope you like.

I've had a couple of VTRs a Silver Phase 1 and a Posi Blue Phase 2 the same as this.
Loved them both!

Many years ago I used to work for a Citroen main dealer. Got to drive hundreds of them during my time there. So much fun to drive. I always thought that the VTR was more rewarding to drive than the VTS. The VTS always wanted to spin the wheels in tight corners, where as the VTR world grip and go. Definitely don’t see many around now.

Nearly bought one brand new, it was either a VTR, a Fiesta Zetec S or a Corsa 1.8SRi
Went with the Corsa, was quicker and nicer inside than the other two, but the Fiesta and the Saxo definitely handled better.
Tell me your lad's name is Gavin!?

It seems a nice little car to be fair guys, the previous owner stopped driving it as he had inherited a newer hatchback to run around in so this just sat on his driveway. The boy, Cameron, not gavin 😁, will spend time over the weekend giving it a thorough clean, ill get more pics then

Check the Inner wings both front and rear for rust. They like to go where the boot floor meets the inner arch.
Funnily my phase 1 was worse for rust than the phase 2 and at the time I had it was newer and lower mileage.

Having a good look over it, this is whats needed. Drivers side sill rust repair/replacement, roof and bootlid paint, a pair of rear lights and replacement clips for the sill and arch plastics A little disheartened with the welding but to be expected with old French tin. The boy loves it (he really wants a fiat 126 so he'll fit in on here)

I've got a 106. I'm currently looking for a donor car to get a 1.4 or 1.6 engine from. Seen some absolute horrors in terms of bad repairs etc. Once they start they seem to go very bad but people still seem to expect lots for them. I think the last one I looked at had been getting wet inside and it had suffered a lot.

He's enthusiastic, i gave him a haynes manual and just left him to it, removed the entire fog light to replace the bulb which was a bit overkill but I'm glad he's happy, much better than being sat infront of a screen.

even with a few issues, a 40k standard VTR has got to be worth a few quid now so defo worth him spending some time on even if he just has it for a 6 months and sells it on to buy something else

So, we've removed all the bodykit and underneath all that plastic is spot on. Metal clips glued to the bodykit with a plastic fixing into the car, clips had rusted breaking the glue which is why all the kit was loose, easy enough fix. We had a downpour here yesterday and the drivers front carpet is now soaked so that'll be next, likely blocked sunroof drain (as suggested above.)

Once I was flying up the bypass in my VTR and the passenger front wheel arch ripped off entirely! Same thing had happened. Car was only 8years old at the time 😂

Id bet the same would have happened with this car, I'm glad I didn't lose any bits of it on the short drive home as I'd have made a right mess of painting replacement bodykit bits

No more progress as I've been busy with work and if I'm honest, the boys initial enthusiasm is gone. I've spied a very neglected corrado locally that I fancy for myself so I'll hopefully get this saxo mot'd and back in 1 piece over Xmas and sold on to make space

I remember my mum having one of these, new in 99/2000, a black mk1. It was the absolute business and I loved how it handled and how it accelerated.
One night, having won the pub quiz and on the way home I hit some black ice and lost control. Despite trying to control the skid the road was too icy and I lost control. Having hit a ramp shaped flower bed we took to the air and landed hitting a bench before side swiping the sea wall. The car promptly veered across the quiet road and into a bush. The engine died but the radio was still going - Smashing Pumkins 1979 - what a tune to ruin your Mum’s new car too.
We decamped from the car to assess the damage. The drivers side was pretty stoked in from landing sideways-ish on the bench. At that moment, another, new black Saxo VTR drove slowly by, the driver open mouthed.
In my panic I started the car and parallel parked it so that it didn’t look quite like id stacked it into a hedge.
Minutes later the Police arrived.
Mum got a new Saxo VTR, a mk2 this time. I still love the VTR such a fun car to drive. More fun that the Mini’s we test drove and more fun than the Renault Clio that replaced it.
Your lad is going to really enjoy that car.

Quite the car for a youngster to have! I had this car's close cousion, or rather the VTS's. A 106 GTi I picked up in EdinburghMine was not the best example, but given it was £800 with alot of ticket back in 2010, I also couldn't complain. I had alot of fun in that car, and kept it from the scrapper for another couple of year.

That was my Posi Phase 2. Definitely miss it, it handled well, was fast enough for me and was generally just fun. Tom
