FOR SALE
1997 Jaguar XJ6 3.2 Sport
Lovely usable example, driven regularly
MoT until March 2023
Approx 115,000 miles
Rare Aquamarine metallic with full cream leather and black carpets and woods
SOLD
With the recent upgrade to an X358 Jaguar XJ, my venerable X300 Jaguar XJ6 3.2 Sport is available for very reluctant sale. I developed a soft spot for XJ6s some years ago and have owned a few, but this one has been the pick of the bunch for me. Finished in the rare one-year-only colour of Aquamarine and with a full leather interior in cream against black woods and carpets, it is an extremely handsome car, further enhanced with the addition of an XJR spec colour coded mesh grille (correct original chrome version also included). It still turns heads and draws admiring comments today and remains a supremely comfortable, reliable and competent way of wafting around the countryside. Bought from a JEC member and serial XJ owner after I sold my X308 XJR, I'm actually rather sad that I have now upgraded to an X358 as it means I must reluctantly part with this old friend.
Whilst probably not a concours contender, it is an extremely presentable and well preserved example devoid of the usual ailments afflicting most of it's peers – there is none of the dreaded lacquer peel or rusty rear arches here. Cocooned in the cosy and sumptuous cabin, enveloped in leather and piano black walnut and with a straight 6 soundtrack it's hard to imagine a finer way to waft through the English countryside and I have relished every journey in this supremely comfortable XJ. Jaguar got the recipe for these absolutely right.
Mechanically there are no known issues - it starts well and runs beautifully, as you would expect for the relatively modest mileage. All the warning lights come on and go out as they should, there are no klonks / rattles / nasty noises underway and the ride remains excellent . The AJ16 3.2 litre straight 6 is nice and quiet, has masses of oomph and sounds great on the move. Being the 'Sport' model it benefits from the slightly wider wheels and enhanced suspension over regular XJ6s. Gearbox, brakes, steering etc. all working as they should.
The interior is lovely and not battered and worn out as so many of them are. The piano black woods particular to the 'Sport' are in great order. Seats are very good - some minor wear to the drivers seat, as can be expected, but all still supremely comfortable and with the leather in lovely condition. Trims and carpets are all excellent, with carpets further protected by a set of correct tailored deep pile mats. Headlining has been discreetly pinned where necessary to resolve typical XJ6 sagging. All controls, functions, interior and dash lights etc. working, even the clock! The climate control is great, though it doesn't get frosty cold in the summer. Electric windows and central locking all working, though the alarm remote fob is currently not working, so central locking is achieved on the key.
The exterior is finished in the exceptionally attractive 'Aquamarine metallic' and looks fabulous. More normally an XJR colour, it was offered as an option on the Sport for one year only, to the best of my knowledge and is rarely found today. There are a few minor car park / trolley dinks here and there commensurate with age, but the paint finish remains excellent, with no unsightly scrapes or damage and no discernible corrosion beyond some bubbling under the paint on the front wing ahead of the passenger front wheel. Structurally the Jaguar remains pleasingly sound, passing it's MoT in February with no advisory items. It has had welded repairs completed to a decent standard in the past to address localised corrosion as necessary. Wheels are good, with excellent tread on all tyres, plus a space saver spare.
Elsewhere, there is a current V5C, plus original owners books / folder and stamped service history book to 100,000 miles, together with one key plus original Jaguar factory alarm remote fob.
A reluctant sale of an extremely handsome XJ6 that you can jump in and waft around in supreme comfort straight away.
