M54B30 / 3.0 Litre / 2979cc / In-Line Six Cylinder / 24 Valve / 231 BHP / 300 nM Torque
Mechanically sound. Runs and drives as it should. Starts up first time and idles in the correct manner. No coolant leaks. No overheating. Slight weep from rocker cover gasket (common on M54, and mentioned on MOT). EML light comes on an off as does the traction, but does not affect the running of the car.
Engine pulls freely all the way to the red line, with no hesitation or power loss. The good old M54 straight six still sounds glorious and is one of the BMW greats. Has a decent turn of speed, considering she is now 24 years old! Easily keeps up with modern traffic.
Gearbox is smooth and changes gear effortlessly. No hunting, no slipping gears, no whining. Sports mode engages as it should and the Steptronic element functions correctly.
The M Sports suspension gives the car a sporty yet supple rides. Handles well, whilst also providing a great deal of comfort. No knocks or bangs.
The exhaust is solid with no blowing.
The brakes work fine and stop the car well. Would benefit from brake pads, as indicated on the recent MOT. Brake pad warning light has just come on. No grinding or shuddering.
Excellent Goodyear Efficient Grip Tyres all round.
Overall, the drive train is in good working order and the car is a great daily driver.
The car is structurally solid, with none of the heavy rot which often blights these cars.
In good condition for the year and mileage, but not new or perfect. Marks, blemishes and stone chips, as to be expected. A few corrosion spots on the lower cills, and rear arch.
Interior is in good order and a fine place to sit. The E39 was most definitely the high point in BMW design and quality. The leather has worn well, with a few grazes and cracks. No major rips or tears. Everything is tight, solid and in one piece. No knocks, rattles or creaks. Comfortable seats which make every journey a pleasure.
Almost everything works as it should. driver's side window has come off its runner during the recent cold spell - needs re-aligning (you can hear the motor and mechanism working fine). One of the rear number plate bulbs has a bad connections, and comes on an off intermittently. No other warning lights on the dash.
Comes with 5 sets of Keys. Yes, you read that right - 5 Keys! BMW Torch in Glove Box. CD Auto Changer and BMW Tool Kit in the boot.
Over £14k in Bills and Receipts, mainly from the supplying BMW Specialist garage and another local garage who looked after the car.
Every single original MOT Certificate from new.
Good, original and low ownership E39s are very hard to find these days. Most have rotten away or been badgered about with. At the other end of the spectrum, you have examples over £8k. For this money, I wouldn’t hesitate to say this is one of the most honest and genuine examples for sale
