Help! I have a Porsche timer relay for my wipers that should have a 5 second delay in it, but its now got about a 0.5 second delay so no intermittant wipers and no self park. These relays are now very rare (& expensive) so a direct replacement is not a viable option. This is the relay, can anyone advise on what bit needs fixing? Or alternatively does anyone know a modern cheap replacement relay?

relay 19 and 99 have the same pinout, 19 being a set delay and 99 being 'programmable' by turning the intermittent on then off, then on again when you want the wipe time set.

Ah, thanks Rich.
That is almost the same pin terminals as mine, the only difference is my 'trigger' is the T on that relay so I would l only need to wire it to the I connector instead - cool.

Agree with Rich…. The 99 “adjustable” timer relay is quite cool. I upgraded my Audi with it. Little bit clunky to use, but you get used to it.
In answer to your original question, it’ll be one or both of the capacitors causing the interval to shorten as they drift off value due to age. Most likely the silver one 2.2uF/40v but possibly the red one.

Just a coincidence that its happened at the same time as the heater works and pulling the dash apart ? May be worth continuity testing the circuit - especially the wiper motor park earth?

Andrew, it packed up a couple of weeks before, thought it might have been the -5 temps, only now with the column apart I've investigated.

Hah, sorting my boxes of relays out and what did I find? A 99 relay.
Tried it in but I just can't get it to work. Everything works except on intermittent it only sweeps once. Wired it as the above diagram and it just buzzes on the relay points, so maybe a faulty relay?
In the meantime if any clever people want to show me links to replace those 2 capacitors in the original relay I'd be very grateful.

I would have a bash at cleaning the original relay contacts with fine emery paper, and re-soldering what appear to be some dry solder joints. As for capacitors, you could try any of the usual electronics parts suppliers, such as RS-Farnell: uk.rs-online.com/web/I can probably dig you out some from my stash of hundreds of various capacitors if you get really stuck...

I'm not sure what I'm meant to be looking for capacitor wise, I can solder them in ok but I'm a bit lost on values etc.
Original one is back in again, delay is about 1 second now so slightly improved.
If you could be kind enough to tell me what values of cap I should be searching for please?

The red one appears to be a 100uF, 16V ("100/16") radial electrolytic, whereas the silver one appears to be a 2.2uF, 40V ("2.2/40") radial electrolytic.
Radial meaning where the leads both come into one end, axial where there is a lead at each end.

Looks like it could well be; only way to be sure is to measure your originals, however, most similar size ones can be made to fit...

Just to add, the exact voltage rating is unimportant, so long as it is higher than the original (in which case you're just over-speccing it).

Exactly, the relay manufacturer will likely just pick the cheapest/most easily available with a high enough voltage rating.

Thanks for confirming. I've bought the mixed bag of them - room for me to muck it up that way!! Also if I have spares to fix it then it will never go wrong again
