Hey Folks! Another week, another weekly chat, your place for stuff that may not warrant a full thread, or stuff that is just going on right now that you want to share. I got the new Weekender website up and running: retroridesweekender.com/ which is nice, launched it last night. Took up all of Friday trying to get everything positioned and working on mobile. I spent reasonable amount of time over the weekend working on the updated layout for the forum. I'm SUPER happy with what I've got so far, I've taken a couple of work in progress screenshots so I can share them when I finally get it all working nicely. I'm really hopeful people will like it when I've got it complete. My mission for this week is to confirm some Club Retro Rides events for this year and get a mail out done for the shows and Club RR. I'm going to have a backlog of threads to author when this new layout is complete as well, because I want to make the process for doing show reports/build updates with photos easier, and I'm going to "eat my own dogfood" on it by doing them in the newer layout. So if you see some "better late than never" type threads from me, you'll know the new layout is nearly ready to go Previous Thread: forum.retro-rides.org/thread/223934/chat-thread-blue-monday-wc

I got paid on the 15th, so this thread doesn't apply in principle but in spirit... I'm still skint.
Deciding to have a fleet clear out. Impreza is for sale now so a wee ad will need drafting on here. I think the non retro Focus ST needs to go too, I'm just not gelling with it.

Skinty mcskint pants here too. Seem to have spent a significant amount recently on abrasives as I strip the underside of my van. Always a hidden cost you forget about. My wife has nicknamed the engine bay as the 'pit' as I disappear through the engine bay decklid and down underneath - emerging a few hours later looking like I've been a coal miner for the last 30 years. Just got to keep chugging away and stay stuck in. Really looking forward to the weekender and trackday I've booked beginning of march

I’ve just spent 4 days straight mixing concrete in temps that have barely nudged positive, with some freezing fog thrown in for good measure.
I get that job done ( well that bit for now anyways, I’ve still got some more to mix) and the next day the temp has now risen 5 degrees. Story of my life really, slog through something difficult and the circumstances immediately change to something that would have made the job easier 🙄🤣 Still, it’s meant to be good for you or something.

Retro shıt? Looks like we're finally selling our place in Aberdeenshire as the two year placement became permanent, we've been here six, and our tenants are moving on. I'm relieved, but obviously we've not been back since before covid. We've just this past week found out that our neighbour has been using our field as his own personal dumping ground. This past week has been stressful trying to sort it all out.

I believe so, yes. He's got some issues with hoarding and I'd had a gentle chat with him last week when I found out about it because I'd rather keep it civil since I'm not actually there. Saturday he blocked some stuff getting shifted and I ended up going nuclear at him over the phone. Even in the furthest part of the house and with all the doors inbetween shut, my wife and kids heard everything, and had never heard me so angry before. Should be cleared this weekend coming, but we'll see. Can see me having to head over with a hired beavertail and taking everything for scrap. Will take some knuckle dusters, just in case.

Is that a T25/T3?
I'm helping a friend restore a rusty one - it would be good to drop the engine and gearbox out the way to clean up the whole area. Is that easy?

Still "enjoying" using a 50+ year old car as a daily in this weather. I should have "winterised" something properly. I miss that Lincoln Town Car! Man that thing was great in winter. The Fiesta is awaiting parts. I have a '05 Honda Jazz as a discourtesy car from the MOT place since I left the Fester up there. That Honda is borked and only has 104K on it. Is that normal? I recall borrowing it before and thinking "this is a tin can, but its a fine tin can" - now its so poor that I'd rather drive a '71 Ford in ice, fog and so on cos it feels more like it will actually make it... I was warned "you can pop ome in the yella one, its a bit curse word but probably better than the bus"
Yeah well
Work has kicked the year off crazy, so I am in the "have cash but no time to do anything" version of life (the other is "Have time but no cash") so am prioritising and list making. Its also too cold for me to be out doing anything but work (which is an indoor activity)
I'm getting some new gates up which I am pleased about.

It's only taken me the best part of two months but I've finally reinstated the rear subframe on the Crossfire, got the week off work so might even have a working car by next week, which would be nice

Taking car for MOT tomorrow so it will either be a relief or a week of grovelling around in the freezing cold,
Looks like there may be job cuts at work stressfull because of the guys who work for me but fortunatelly I am of an age where it just means taking a payout and my pension a couple of years early.

I'm doing a couple of weeks of nightshifts in the hope of using the extra money to buy an e36 318ti compact cheap off a mates dad. Hopefully that'll happen a week on Friday and when/if it materialises I'll get a thread up. Plan is to build a compact cup spec road car for track days and sprint racing.

Will take some knuckle dusters, just in case. Cricket bat, ball and other related paraphernalia for less pre-meditatedness. I've hit some sort of odd situation in my life where I'm not working massively hard (8-5 Mon-Fri) but I'm earning a reasonable wage + side jobs + buying and selling bits and bobs means I've actually got chunks of spare cash. Looking at S1 Lotus Elise at the moment, probably won't be this year but they're one of very few cars that I've always wanted. Car related news is I dropped on a few bits so other than £63 for brake pads a decent size big brake upgrade for the Clio cost me £30. I painted them blue in celebration.

Fair point, although I wasn't being serious. I'd need to take them through customs!

How many brake does blue add compared to the standard +20hp for red? A new tin of blue is only +8hp due to EU COSHH rules, but because this was a vintage ripspeed tin I found in the back of the paint cupboard it's at least +30hp. Hopefully the only Brexit benefit will be a return to full hp increases on specialist paint.

Also skint, I splurged on building materials last week, with a view to extending the garage imminently.
I've given up on tidying it for now, as most of the stuff in the way will belong in the extension.
This weekend I plan on erecting the sectional garage panels, which should get me one of the sides and the back built, then the walls I can see will be done in bricks I found under the overgrowth when we moved in.
