Happy to say the above MAP sensor replacement & clean out has done the trick! Done 300 miles since and has been spot on.There's something to be said for low cost motoring especially when you actually enjoy driving the turd Speaking of Turds or Poo……. Stand by….. I can feel it coming.

Rather lacking in the photo's dept but who wants to see a miserable Costco fuel pump . Decided to check the Astra's mpg after filling up earlier today and was damn pleased with 51.4mpg sitting at an average 60mph over 360 miles. I think it will most likely stay around that figure as I drive 99% open road. Going forward, will I do my longer journeys in the XC70 at 44mpg or the white turd at 51?

A lot of folks give this model a hard time as its a bit bland to look at and bland to drive but it does its job perfectly well, mega cheap to keep on the road if you pick the right engine! rust can be its downfall so crawl underneath
With the MAP sensor I always used to keep a spare handy in the glove box, pretty common part to fail

Can't beat an old Vauxhall! I've got the full Vaux-Com set up if you've ever got it back Ilkeston way and want to diagnose stuff (or add a few dashboard features!). Shame I didn't know you were in the area Grizz, I'd have made you a brew!

Looking at this……;; We need to find you a silly rear spoiler. And black out the rear glass as discussed.

So while I am modifying your van for you, all the way from down south…… I rediscovered these, new, unused, retro, and vintage. Possibly RARE (price goes right up) Mudflaps. If you were to agree to fit them to said van and hopefully not sell it a week later, due to the rarity of said Mudflaps (which I offered to someone else years ago, who never bothered to collect, may did not want to collect) then they are yours for both the cause and the van. Let me know,

This engine is good the little 16V Isuzu based diesel or if you want petrol the 8 valve 1600 is cheap as chips to fix the only downside is it eats EGR valves but they can be deleted

The little van has now done a bit under 1800 miles in my 6 week ownership and as with any older bit of tin, a few more issues will need doing over the next month or so. The EGR/MAP problem has been resolved along with a few minor niggles so on to the next one! A pair of front tyres were fitted and I ordered a rear engine mount a few weeks ago only to find a long reach torx socket was required, that arrived this week. I'm hoping this mount is the culprit as there is a definite thud when taking yer foot off the accelerator and I believe fitting the mount shown below should sort that: All good fun

I don't think I would fit them on this project so please offer them to someone who probably wants to retain a stock look.Thank you anyhoo.

Had a great day down at Auto Distraction H/Q where I managed to get a small job done of replacing the door speakers. The replacements were only budget 2 way jobbies but still sound sooo much better than the stock paper cone jobbies. Working in the dry makes such a difference: Hopefully get to the mount replaced in the week and also fit the new reverse light switch. I'm finding these odd jobs very therapeutic
