Retro Rides Weekender - Track activities for Sat and Sun (They are very different formats on each day)
Application form is here: retroridesevents.com/profile you may well need to sign up (it is not your forum login)
Saturday Track
Noise limits
105 db static
101 db driveby
Normal Road cars will be fine, anything track orientated if you use it already on track you'll know if you comply - if you are running open headers or have a straight pipe with minimal silencers you are going to be disappointed at the noise test so don't be that guy/girl
Helmets are compulsory for driver and a single passenger (Passengers must be over 14yrs old - see note 1) - you need to to cover legs and arms when on track.
There will be a limited qty available to hire (A deposit at hire will be required and will be returned when it's handed back less a small charge for cleaning / sanitsation)
Morning
Sprint Laps
Each run will be two laps of Goodwood full track and without incidents you should get at least three runs in the session
If you want to see whats that's like from an in car perspective watch below from andrewbaran in 2022
Split in to two sessions
Early Morning - Capacity 36 cars (Split into 6 groups of six cars)
Late Morning - Capacity 36 cars (Split into 6 groups of six cars)
We are splitting the session to speed up the turnaround between runs - with 72 cars (12 groups of 6 cars) our biggest issue in the paddock was ending up with cars with no drivers due to comfort breaks and feedback was it was too long a time delay between runs
Added advantage is that we don't have to try and get 72 cars thro noise testing in one hit (Just 36 cars first thing to get the show on the road)
It also helps a little for those who don't like getting up a silly O'clock to be inside the circuit
Afternoon
Special Stage
Leveraging the experience gained last year to further improve the different format we ran in the afternoon - this will NOT use the full circuit but will use the section of track from the super shell building to the end of the main straight past the grandstand.
It won't be an identical layout to this in car video from dfms911 but rest assured it will be something similar and it's a lot of fun in a very concentrated burst of activity
Watch it to the end and see what a key member of the paddock team gewy reaction is when the car stops
Late Afternoon Sprint Laps
Late Afternoon we revert back to the same format as the Morning sessions
If you want to do full laps of the circuit in a sprint format - Apply for either of the Morning sessions or the Late Afternoon Session.
Sunday Track
Autosolo
One of the most enjoyable ways to get some action with your car, where a firebreathing race car doesn't mean you are the quickest.
We're looking for pre-2000-ish cars again with a whole range of cars suitable for the auto solo. This is a great way to get on track and have fun with your car. We take in applications for two weeks and then short list to ensure a diverse range of entries.
Have a little video (thank you dongoloso ) of a Honda getting down with the beat
Can't credit for this one but it demonstrates the variety that is RR
Or this one
Of course there are always people dfms911 who take it really seriously
If you watch those videos and don't think that looks huge fun and I want to have a go I want to know why
Helmets are Mandatory when on the course
Split into 4 sessions, each with a capacity of 25 - 30 cars. Again we have listened to feedback; a big group over the whole morning or afternoon turns over very slowly, a smaller group spins round faster. The number of runs is the same overall just in a little more compact groups.
Early Morning
Late Morning
Lunch
Early Afternoon
Late Afternoon
Sunday is a "Quiet Day"
94 db - basically road car std
We won't be noise testing automatically but Goodwood reserve the right to spot test if a car is sending the readings over expected
Normal Road cars will be fine, anything a little noisy will be tested and could potentially be excluded
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What's the deal with passengers. Obviously they will need a helmet too but is there any further signing on or payments required?
A. Yes sign on is required, we don't make a charge for passengers.
When the info packs are sent out there will be a link to the Goodwood on line disclaimer - passengers just need to complete that and then sign on on the day will be quick and easy
I often get asked why we don't charge for passengers and it's simple - passengers this year are frequently drivers next year - if they have a great time as a passenger they will want to do it as a driver next time.
Oh and if they are over 14 (ie old enough to be passengers and sons or daughters with parents taking part they are the future for our hobby)
we really try to keep the cost of track stuff down having kids is bloody expensive enough so I think it’s good thing when they can enjoy a passenger lap or two with parents without feeling like they are being bled dry for every penny. We’ve had to occasionally baby sit the odd child at the Goodwood event (so that the parent could get on track after being let down with arrangements) and without exception every single one said they couldn’t wait till they were 14 and could be in the car
Q. If I apply am I guaranteed a space
A. Short answer - No
Long Answer we try to create a wide variety of cars on track representing the umbrella of RR - We sometimes get years where MX-5's or VW Golf MkII's dominate the applications - we'll take a maximum of two for morning and two for afternoon. Any others will go on the reserves list - that doesn't mean they won't get a space closer to the event as we always get a few drop outs with cars not ready or broken closer to the event but we really do try to even out the cars to a really broad representation
Q. If I get track time do I have to pay for event entry
A. Sorry but Yes - General admission on the day (or weekend camping ticket) is still required - Track is separate to general admission.
Long Answer I'm constantly asked why the track sessions at both RRW and RRG do not include entry to the event
I have to explain that it would require 3 different discount rates
1. Early bird camping discount
2. Late Camping discount
3. Advance Day ticket discount
Then I'd need to prove or see evidence of the originally purchased ticket and the whole world gets bogged down and unmanageable and trust me it's hard enough getting people to pay for the right activity/session etc
So we keep all track activities as a standalone
Notes
Note 1 - Passengers 14yrs old must still be able to be fully secured in the seat and be able to have feet flat on the floor
