Hey Folks!

Another week, another weekly chat, your place for stuff that may not warrant a full thread or stuff that is just going on right now that you want to share.


Well show season is winding down and the rainy days are winding up. So time to head in to the garage and work out where all the tools are (and then remember I can't do anything on cars in an efficient manner so phone up a suitable specialist).

I'm hoping to get to my local breakfast club at Haynes on Sunday if the weather behaves. After that I'm trying to get to Essen motorshow as the closest to SEMA that we get in Europe.

Obviously planning for next year's RR shows/events too. Got some great things lined up already.

What plans do we have for the last throws of the year's car season?

Currently 'enjoying' the energy hangover from a full-on weekend at Spa. Third time I've been there, but first time I've been for the Six Hours. It was cold and wet. And fantastic.

Been a bit slowed down on car work as I sprained my wrist, but been preparing the Almera for sale, messaged a seller about a replacement car 👀 but not heard back yet.

Might be more change as we may move on the (sometimes) trusty Peugeot 207, which has meant much research on what's a vaguely reliable bet in a 2012-on hatch.

Managed to get a lightweight flywheel for the MGB so got a bit of work to do on the O series, getting it mocked up in place and mounts finished off

Also going USA for the first time next week, looking forward to the car spotting, not really organised anything car specific for the trip yet though, anything worth seeing in the new york/Boston area?

Two or three more Sunday morning meetings during October around here, so I'm hoping it'll stay dry for those.

Without sounding too doom and gloom about things I was hoping to be able to make Rustival 2 show or Oh So Retro Margate but I realistically am making zero shows for the whole season. Which is a bummer. Still the threads on here give me a taste for things (seemingly it's been a wet summer) and things to look forward to when I get to the outside world again, hopefully some progress soon at the very least now we are, say it quietly, October!?!?!?!?

Did the Spa 6 Hour exactly 5 years ago ( my avatar pic was taken waiting at the Eurotunnel on the way out there), just pre-covid. Great long weekend with some good old friends.

Managed to gain a free Herald (possibly Vitesse) convertible this week. If I can extricate it from it's current resting place. I actually spotted it (well the rear wing poking out from behind a shed) in this field in the middle of nowhere about 15 years ago when I was on the look out for some upgrade parts for my Standard 8. Thought it had gone about 8-10 years ago, but turns out he had added a lean to on the front of the shed, hiding it completely.

"weather has turned" - yes, from "very wet" to "total deluge". Ugh.

I have a filthy cold.

Very little being achieved right now.

I have discovered it is utterly the worst time of year to try sell a caravan.

XJ40 is being typical as to its reputation. PAS has blown a leak to add to the list of other niggles.

Leaky '77 Mercury has now been moved outside, to coincide with the worst rain in ages of bad rain so that will be soaked inside again. Its having the screens refitted which 99% should stop all that though. it took weeks to dry it out when I put it indoors. Oh well.

Change of job means change in hours and also no working from home so I have the delight of the commute at 5pm home time. Today was a particularly bad example of how not to do it - absolutely blasting with rain and some dreadful driving conditions. I don't usually mind driving in the rain, but this was horrible. So I did 55 instead of 70 and let the other crazies get home quicker (or crash, which some of them came close to).

Will have to re-jig how I timetable the Midas. Looks like some evening work may be required.

Last month was a big milestone birthday for me .

To celebrate , I’ve got myself a Lotus .

Now this could be a really good , or really bad thing to have done , only time will tell .

Left a deposit on it last night .

Obviously buying a car when it’s dark & raining is the absolute best way to buy a 47 year old car .

I’ll put a thread up when i get it fully in my possession .

Now the weather is suitably terrible I'm working on an EFI build for the Cortina, I printed an inlet manifold recently (on my thread) but I've tweaked the drawing slightly and now working on a test bed to see if the injector position is correct.




I've had some prices for having these made and it's better than expected but need to confirm a few things first.

I had also drawn up a 4-2-1 manifold, this is the 4th version after a few none starters, all drawn using off the shelf sections and bends.





Before I order anything I want to not only have the inlet manifold finished but I'm also working on a printable version for fit check and to possibly make a build jig off it.



That's all the pieces to build it!

As I had time I have also made a production version of the manifold - each piece is the bend and where I'd cut them. This needs a bit more work to get sane measurements! If the fit test goes well I'll need to make tooling to be able to measure the cuts etc which I'm working on.
