OK, so there's been some interesting comments on this so far. I think we need to differential between Max Power and Chavstyle if we are really goinna nail this one down...
Max Power features alot of very well turned out cars from several distinct fields. In many ways it's very name is something of a misnoma as it isn't really all that concerned with performance (as we understand it), well at least not these days. It was in the beginning but has wandered... Maxy P features some amazing, incredible show cars, all that flip paint and gullwing doors stuff - the way I see it this is just a logical estension of the old custom car scene - these cars are not to everyones tastes, but then neither were the custom rods of the seventies - as Richy kindly demonstrated to us earlier in the week.
For those sorts of cars the performance aspect is almost an afterthought, as long as its big and shiny, it really doesn't matter how well it goes....The cars are built to show first and drive second....parallels can be drawn with low-riders and similar in our universe...
Then in Maxy P land are the "ricers" spending alot of cash on the performance aspect - for them it's all about getting a faster quarter and making the car better on a drift track. There are guys on here who chase the same goals, just using older machinery - think dragsters and circuit racers.....
Magazines (and internet forums) provide people with ENJOYMENT and INSPIRATION. They wanna slice of the pie. However most of us have to live in the real world where there have to be compromises and sacrifices...for example I wanted a nice "retro" car but was limited in chioce due to th eneeds of my family...Maxy P readers are just the same...a few body mods is their way of saying "I BELONG...." without popping £50,000 for a full on custom show car or racer. Most of us are the same - it's just our mods are either mechanical or more restrained.
I think the group of motorists we should fear most are those that should not be on the road in the first place. Those who drive without tax / MOT / insurance in dangerous vehicles and / or in contravention of a driviers license. These are the real menace, plus add into that those who feel it's "cool" to drive at 50mph down residental streets. While a proportion of these will enevitably be Max Power readers, some may also be "Retro" readers, or have little interest in cars at all. Those who create stunning machines for max P are not really a part of this group, huh?
It's all in the attitude to your machinery and the way you use it. I don't think we should necessarily tar Max P folk all with the same brush....(but we'll probably still have a bit of a laugh tho'....)
