My 1994 (L) Honda Prelude 2.2 VTEC is now up for sale.
It was imported from Japan about a year ago and has been owned by one person before me in this country.
The previous owner sold it because he was a biker and had a 1954 Ford Consul - and the Prelude scared him witless!
I am selling now, after 6k miles of great motoring, because I have a 1978 Mitsubishi Sapporo - old, Japanese and RWD which is more my thing than FWD.
The mileage is 79094 and the car is in very good condition overall.
The tax runs out at the end of this month, but if sold before then, I'll supply 6months at cost.
It will also have 2 brand new tyres fitted within the next week.
In the reverse of the usual tradition, I will start with the bad points of the car:
1) The alloys are scuffed - this was done in Japan before the car arrived in this country. It is nothing that a darn good polishing couldn't sort out I'm sure.
2) The driver's wing mirror has a bit of paint missing from the leading edge. I think this happened on the motorway after a truck flicked a stone up.
3) The driver's door handle has a scratch on it - I know this happened due to a stone impact.
4) The rear spoiler has a few small scratches - this happened in the works car park and could be T-Cut out I'm certain.
5) There was a problem soon after I bought it where the pulley that holds the timing belt on came off. This was due to an incorrect timing belt replacement by the importing garage (just down the road from me - a Toyota dealer no less). This was fixed by my mechanics and has caused me no problems whatsoever in 6k of motoring. The pistons/cylinders/valves were not damaged in the slightest and the engine runs like new still.
6) The rear window has some kind of tinting applied. This happened in Japan as it is apparently quite popular over there. It makes night rear vision interesting, but you do get used to it.
7) One of the front brake discs will need replacing.
8) The rear bumper was bumped in Japan. nothing serious but I haven't had time to rehook the bumper to the final retaining clip. To be honest, it barely shows.
9) The lid to the centre console coin tray is bust and always stays up. I think a replacement is £4 from Honda.
10) There is a bubble of rust on the leading edge of the sunroof. I have not had time to fix this.
11) The rear drivers side stereo speaker will need replacing at some point. It rattles, but only when playing Nick Cave for some reason!
As you can see, I've been very picky - I can't think of anything else no matter how minor that I've missed.
And now, for the good things
1) For its age, it is low mileage.
This means that:
2) The seats are prefectly comfortable and unworn. The cloth is not ripped or damaged in any way.
3) The engine is sweet as a nut. It revs well, is very very powerful in the VTEC way, tractable and fairly economical.
4) There is no wear in the cabin at all.
5) There is a great stereo in the car - face off unit with MP3 and a 10-disc changer in the boot. I's a brilliant system, sounds excellent.
6) Insurance is great through Tesco - I'm £22 and TPFT cost me just over £400!
7) There is a japanese till receipt in the sun visor (OK, maybe not the first selling point, but hey! It's interesting)
8) It's quick and good to drive. Once the VTEC gets on song, you really start to move. however, because of the way that the VTEC works, it is great around town and doesn't try to hurl you into the car in front.
9) The engine is powerful enough (still) to pull away in 5th. Just shows the ability of the car.
10) All the stuff you look for works - lights, horn, door "bonger" etc etc.
11) The MOT failure list ran to: 1 bulb, 1 headlight align, 1 wiper blade. And that was it.
12) MOT due next August, so loads left on there.
13) It has been looked after and not thrashed. Oil has been changed twice since I've had it (just over 6k miles)
14) Since it is a J import, everything is digital on the dash, including the superb air conditioning system. Get fun!
15) It's a manual gearbox - none of that auto nonsense!
16) It's got a hefty immobiliser on it, complete with flashing light. Good for insurance!
17) Cruise control. Need I say more?
18) Central locking - very handy.
19) Adjustable steering wheel for those of us who need it...
20) Sunroof - electric and superb in the summer.
Well, that is about as much as is coming to mind at the moment - if you need any more information, please ask.
Inspections are encouraged and welcomed, so send me a mail to arrange.
