Talking of retro British icons, here's my subtle reworking of another classic British icon, the AEC Routemaster! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Extra marks for the first clever b*stard to name all the slightly left wing passengers on board! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

sorry couldn't come up with a single one i would have said the mk3 cortina but they are heavily american influanced i suppose the mk1 cortina GT is quite cool but having never owned one i couldn'd submit that as my vote cause it my be curse word to drive sorry a can't say any austin or morris as i've owned lots in the past including mg mastro and merto they = horrible to drive poor reliability not pleasing to the eye and very poor build quality actualy that sums up most british cars with only a few exceptions sorry

And a lot of Fords in the UK were built in Essex so that makes them a bit British as well! And a good number of Model Ts were made in Manchester, the ones that were for the UK market I mean.

I suppose so, I think part of it's just down to the company and the public's conceptions of the UK branch, but I think Ford in the UK are less of a British company now than they used to be, since in the 60s it was still capable of producing different models to the European mainland branches and the North American branches, such as with the Thames ranges of vans and lorries, which had a lot of incarnations but were always different to the German built and American built Ford commercials.

Its a shame there arnt any more british born and bred mass produced cars anymore. One by one they fell, and the day Rolls Royce sold out was pretty much the end. Still all the more reason to look after and enjoy the great british classics we,ve got left. Nice to see a Scimitar GTE put forward, its a great practical all rounder and underated in my opinion. The coolest and biggest british car icon has to be the mini though. Shame its German now.
