It's mad though, someone who didn't have a clue could bid on the S2000, but the Merc looks dreadful!

Thing is with ebay, anyone can download some piccies from a forum, describe the car and put something they don't have up for sale. If it's rare and remote enough, someone will bid blind and then there's evey chance the money will go missing - hijacked paypal account or whatever.
ebay is great for £2 oddities and £50 winter bangers. ebay is not ideal for £10k cars.

I'd disagree with that.
I sold my mates XJ6C for him for £8K, his Stag for £6K, his 2500PI estate for £2.5K and some other cars, bikes, etc for various mates all for top dollar. If the vehicle is rare or desirable you can get the best price for it.
Ordinary stuff is far harder to get a good price for on eBay. But if its just a quick sale you want it seems to work for me.
take the same precautions buying and selling you would off a stranger in the pub or out of an ad in the local paper. When I sold the XJ6C it was to a guy in Belgium. Thought that would be a nightmare but the guy came up with the cash in an attache case like a bleedin drug deal going down. All sweet though.
Sad to say the people who get stung in cons are usually people thinking they are onto something for nothing or are just dumb. Come on the guy reisters and staright away is selling stuff with no photos and people just going mad for it because its so cheap.... Granted theres a bit of plain bad luck too for some people who are "green" to the ways of the net. But don't just go into things blind.
I think a lot more people will concentrate on hawking their stuff on forums and the like now due to eBay prices going up and the good old tax people starting to snoop roud peoples listings and they have just set up an eBay taskforce to make sure we are all paying tax on the money we "make" on eBay... w@nkers.

There is an Aston on there at the moment for 97p or something. It's just a picture taken from a Classic sales website! Can't get over just how many scammers there are on Ebay at the moment. Ebay are stoopid.

Read the escortevolution thread, this kind of thing makes me so bl00dy angry, even if some of them were a bit naive no-one deserves to get ripped off, ever.
Seems a bit harsh perhaps, but maybe it's time for a 'minimum 25 posts before posting' rule is applied to the For Sale section IMHO, even though we're maybe a little less at risk on here owing to the broad spectrum of cars owned.

As regards the eBay scammers unfortunately they`ve turned a lot of gullible people over. They rip off pictures from other people`s listings (some are comical because they are clearly taken in America and the like) and rip-off accounts to sometimes. Anyhow watch how they don`t have a `proper` buy-it-now price, just a mention of the price on the listing. The idea being they tell you their eBay inbox is full/not working and contact them by another e-maill address. The car will be abroad `but don`t worry it`s British reg`d & you can pay by Western Union and shipping is included`. You send them the money and they disappear, meanwhile the listing runs for a few days while they b*llshit you and others get taken in too. As someone else says if it sounds to good to be true it IS to good to be true. Do NOT pay for any high value (I wouldn`t go over even £200 myself) vehicle without seeing it first. Oh, HPi reports won`t show up against these scammers cars because they have just `jacked the details from a genuine car.

soe of the guys on the imp forum have been targetted recently its the old "i send you a cheque for £x you give me your car and the change".biggest thing that gave it away after the kranky engrish was the fact that they just cut and pasted the description fro the eail they stole the real addy from, hence one member being offered money for his mate!!! ;D ;D i offered em my imp for £4000000 but they would only send me £4000 gits

Can i just add this also applies to other goods being posted on Ebay, i know someone who just got stung for a over a thousand pounds for what looked to be a genuine ebayer with loads of good feedback etc. The git was selling electrical goods. Subsequently the guy had playstations, x boxes, video cameras etc for sale and all of them who bid lost their money through money transfers. He Even got a call to say that the money had been recieved from the guy!
Be careful if it says cannot deliver, but transfer money, don't bother its too much to loose and ebay were of no help at all. It sounds obvious but be aware if the deal sounds too good to be true.
