I just couldn't resist the allure of sommat with the engine in the boot any longer!! I have (it would appear) just bought a 1987 Skoda Estelle in Hearing Aid Beige off eBay for the bargain price of just £20. That's right 20 FUGGING HARD EARNED QUID!!!!! OK, I bought it completely blind (not even any pics ), but the fella assures me that it will run. It's been sat in a lock-up for the last 4 years and was gonna be scrapped! JOY OF JOYS!!! The Plan: keep it looking poop extract a large amount of BHP from the cheapest possible means!!!! It's like being 17 all over again!!! So suggestions please, laydeez and Jents... FIRSTLY on any bright ideas of how to move it from the west midlands to my gaffe (any volunteers?) and SECONDLY (most important) which route to take to make it fly on a budget of loose change! ;D ;D ;D SO

That's a bloody steal is that! £70 for an Alfa engined Skud! Where did you make this bargainous purchase Nick? was it off fleaBay or elsewhere?! Naturally, pics are a must when you get them! I'm in East Mids but completely lacking in vehicular transportation devices otherwise I'd be glad to give you a hand mate!

Yeah it was an eBay special! The guy hadn't put any pictures on - pics really do help sell stuff even if it is grot. There were quite a few people asking questions about it...but no other bidders So it need the usual bits of grot-chopping out of the sills but that's no great shakes, and the engine has the usual Skoda oil leak - but that will be going in the bin (or back on eBay!) anyway. But at least it runs /drives /is all there! Even if I give up after a fortnight (no bets please!!!) then I can make at least a ton by breaking it.... It's got to be a proper shoe-string project (just like my old one) as I have nay the funds for silly spending on this AND the beemer! I don't want to have to get a specialist transport firm in as £100+ to shift a £20 car is daft!

Sounds cool and has the engine were it is supposed to be.
Transport firms cost a fortune. I paid 70 quid to get the Nymph from here to Daventry which is about 12 miles away!

YIKES. That's a pretty terrible story. I'll bear it in mind. There's a coupla guys round the corner from me who seem to run some sort of recovery service / range-rover breaking business. I'll maybe chance going round to enquire (although they're quite scary looking.... )

fugging hell, thats a grim story theres a lad on the Bay, RPM recovery, i've used him, he's very helpful and he charges 85p/mile one way wich i thought not too bad. Pricey for shifting a £20 clunker I suppose.
I've got a towing dolly you could use but its not the most glamorous, the socket has been gnashed off the trailer board and one of the tyres is bald! oh and its in Wisbech!!!

Hiring trailers is a dodgy business. I say there should be MOTs for car towed trailers. Put it this way, an trailer designed to be towed by an articulated lorry has to be given a rigourous MOT just as often as the lorries that tow it, so why don't caravans and car towed trailers? I've seen accidents involving unroadworthy trailers, I once saw a german family in an Audi 100 crash because the boat-carrying trailer they were towing in the north of Scotland decided to decompose for no reason (other than it was thoghroughly rotten!) and caused them to lose control. Luckily for them they hit a tree at one side of the road and survived (I went to make sure they were alright, amazingly nobody was hurt other than being in shock and cut a little) rather than a quite steep drop on the other side which might well have killed them all. From then on I've insisted that trailers NEED to be MOTd regardless of what size they are or what their GVW is.

Hear hear!!! if there were less dodgy trailers about, car shifting would be easier for everyone.
But to do that all car trailers would have to have some sort of reg/chassis number so it would quickly get quite complicated.

It would be complicated no doubt, but all lorry trailers are registered and that system seems to work quite effectively, besides it'd save life without a doubt so it'd be worth it.
