The garage I worked at years ago had a Fiat Fiorino (127) van when I started there.... got pulled by the law once when I was using it to get some bits for my own car.... no MOT, and misuse of trade plates.... cost me a £60 fine I used to take the rubbish to the landfill in it.... only trouble was, as it was trade waste, I had to take down into the quarry.... coming back up was fun in the wet... the 'road' was about 45 degrees, and shale... second gear and wheelspin all the way ;D ;D Eventially the coating of mud led to the suspension arm parting company with the chassis.... bye bye van!! Then we had a mini van which we took in part ex, then a Bedford Chevanne.... Oh, and we chopped a Citroen CX estate into a four door pick up... Happy days!!

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

It's based on the BMC B series isn't it? Never driven one myself but I'm sure they are slow but have quite a lot of puling power!

Finding a pre '85 van will be a problem! Most get bashed about don't they? Unless you're willing to restore one. Maybe find a camper conversion thats been used gently by its elderly owners. Oddly enough I have a thing for japanese vans.... Toyota Datsun E20 Honda TN Mitsubishi L300 We had a Hiace minibus like that one when I was a kid. As far as I know it is still on the farm rusting away after being retired with terminal metal fatigue. I s[pent most of my learning time in an E20 like that one. The motor died and as it was full of rust it got parked. Now we have the Mk1 Transit, which recently lost its 4.1 litre crossflow motor after it sucked a piece of carby into the cylinder, so now it has a pre crossflow 4.1, which we pulled out of a dog kennel where it had lain for 3 years with no carby, changed the oil, points, rotor cap, and stuck it in. Runs like a dream.

What a great picture! look at that guy behind the wheel. I bet it takes him about 1/2 an hour and loads of huffing and puffing just to get out of that van if/when he finally gets to where he's going. I say 'if' cos he might get stopped en route for having no tax, and his van crushed there and then by the DVLA stasi. I knew this picture would be appreciated it's a great slice through 70's life - fatman (lets call him George, he looks like a George) leaves the house every morning after his wife cooks him a healthy breakfast and irons his nice shirt for the day ahead at the office. George walks around the corner towards the tube station, out of site jumps into his work-issue pansy blue fiesta van. What with the promotion falling through and then the 'incident' with Jenny in accounts he had to take whatever job he could, as long as the bills get paid the wife never has to know. so here George is, suited and booted for the office, delivering sandwiches to local businesses. Even had to chop in the tax disc for a bit of cash, the wife wanted that new dress.

It's not exactly retro but I think they are excellent little vans Gentlemen, I present the Nissan S Cargo 2005 Nissan S-Cargo van 1989 (F) Beige, grey fabric interior. 1.5 engine, automatic gearbox, PAS, air conditioning, stereo. Based upon Sunny running gear and mechanicals, the S-Cargo is another quirky product of the Pike design studio who dreamt up the equally bizarre Figaro. Complete with the desirable porthole option, this van would make a perfect promotional vehicle. 55,000 kms or 34000 miles approx. Now in stock. A totally superb example immaculate inside and out, in an unusual colour. £4995 plus VAT

only buy a figaro if you live in a well-off area.
My local pizza place has one as a deliverymobile, more than once it's ended up on it's roof. you just pick the back up and roll 'em over apparently!
mind you they used to do the same to the milkman's bedford rascal pickup when i was a lad so nothing changes.

Figaro? Or S Cargo?
I love those little vans to bits - although I do have to admit it took me a long time to get the name ... in fact I had to be told to be honest .... never was the sharpest tool in the box lol

What about an HA Viva van? With all the fuss about Anglia, Escort and Minor vans, it seems the poor old HA has been forgotten. The missus has one: it was a chance buy last year and it's fantastically reliable. In fact it was a chance buy: was parked on the side of the road in Carmarthen and had long MoT. And... it's possibly the oldest one known to survive, being a '64! The 1059cc lump isn't the fastest, but you can wind it up and hold it at 70mph all day - oh, and it looks good with the Bugatti Owners' Club sticker in the windscreen!
