You aren't allowed to make a vehicle appear newer than it's real age, so to use that 'plate it'd need to be on a car built after 1988 (Is 'R' 1988?).

Hmm, just my opinion obviously, but what is the point of personal plates !? To me it seems an easy way to separate a fool from their money..?! The plate salesmen must be laughing their arses off.....

I'd love a personalised plate, I can get T4LTE for £250, thus meaning "Taity"

Personal plates are fugging grim IMO. Nothing smacks of having more money than sense more than having something that doesn't quite spell your name attached to the ends of your vehicle. Hence why they are so often attached to New Mini's / Beetles, supersize 4x4's and smart cars. Your car already marks you out as a provincial hairdresser / estate agent / cowboy builder. There's no need to emphasise the point! Although full marks to anyone who willingly sports "W4NKA" on their nobba-mobile!

Some personalised ones are ok, eg 250 GTO on one of Nick Mason's Ferraris - bet you can't guess which one ;D

They invariably require the owner to spell out the significance of the misplaced letters/numbers to the bemused onlooker ('No no no, look, its my name, the 4 looks like an A, do you get it now? Look again'), to everyone else who doesnt get the benefit of the explanation, the characters simply spell the words 'I am one sad mother fugger'.

"Well if you squint, and put back in the eight bolt-holes i'd drilled in but the MoT man made me take out, and you're illiterate and blind, then it's my name, innit?" There is a new beetle running around with PU51 RUB on it which is half-amusing, but the funniest plates are the non-deliberate ones. My mate's mum has a mazda with the letters TOS, and even my girlfriend snig-gers at cars with CUM on the plate and i once saw a brown Skoda Rapide (back when they were a common sight, i have to add) with the good old Nottingham reg of ANU, then two numbers, on an S suffix

drop the first letter, so KS is "Roxburghshire" (wherever that is!) and WT is Yorkshire In that case, my dads' old MKII XR2 stayed in the borders all its life and his MKII GTi Moved from Yorkshire to Newcastle to Berwick...where it died. *n

I did look for 594 RMY for my van coz its a 59 Army one, I thought that would be quite cool as its for the van and not personalised for me. The only other plate I ever thought would be cool was FU Q 2 but that doesnt appear to be about

Well I'm not sad, a bell end and definately not gay, but I'd like a private plate thanks. It's a personal touch to any car.
