Just what I said, what's going on? Just posted in the ebay thread, in reply to a knocking an ebay ad has got... Straw, camels back etc. What Passatman, AutohausDolby and Mike have demonstrated very well is the problem I've seen more and more of on this forum. Judging the advert by their own standards and knowledge, they dealt out a verdict. Fair enough, everybody is entitled to their own view. But consider this, since when was the ebay thread/RR in general a suitable place to sit in judgement across the auction site and it's users? Secondly have the aforementioned folks considered that the seller may be a user here? Because he is, and as he states in the advert with 'very restricted internet access'... So why should he choose to visit this site? Oh and yes, I'm sure they'd say it to his face, yada, yada... And indeed yada. Ed left RR because of an element who demonstrate a small minded attitude, I know others who've avoided RR for similar reasons. I enjoy this place, but this has riled me... I've quoted points of law before to demonstrate just how naive some people have been. As ever, this is the only forum, automotive or otherwise I look at. More and more these days I wonder why, and we all know that's not right, eh?

Ed left RR because of an element who demonstrate a small minded attitude, I know others who've avoided RR for similar reasons. I enjoy this place, but this has riled me... I've quoted points of law before to demonstrate just how naive some people have been. And they are then just as guilty because no one says anything to ME. People just go off in a huff and nothing gets done about it. Makes me wonder what the point is if all people are going to do is take offense rather than attempt to tackle the problem. I'm aware there are people on here that are somewhat grating, does that mean none of us should bother?? As ever, this is the only forum, automotive or otherwise I look at. More and more these days I wonder why, and we all know that's not right, eh? I get that feeling more and more as well now days. A couple of particular members make me want to start 2008 with a totally clean slate. My life would be much easier and stress free if there was no Retro Rides forum, site or show. I'm spending time monitoring the forum in case something is about to blow up because of people on here and its just not right. So maybe this issue will solve itself over the next week or so.

I've got to say, Retro-Rides has a reputation as the friendly forum... attitudes left at the door along with the blinkers. I worry that we're losing that a little. People (particularly newer members) getting mercilessly flamed for minor things in their posts really doesn't give off a good image, certainly not a friendly one.
I can see the dilemma, because if all of a sudden people are getting told to be more friendly, the forum would become over-moderated... which would damage it too.

I only joined this forum a month ago, and on the whole everyone is pleasant and tolerant. It is the same as everything, a few bad apples can ruin the whole barrel, etc.

People (particularly newer members) getting mercilessly flamed for minor things in their posts really doesn't give off a good image, certainly not a friendly one. I've always thought this place was a little bit karmic,.. what goes around comes around, usually pretty rapidly .. so you come on with a friendly attitude, eager to engage in a positive and enlightened way you get that back at you : retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1199059937You come on here shouting your mouth off and spilling bile and negativity around the place and you get that in return. Seeing as no one here has attained Moksha its safe to say that you get back to you what you put in. That having been said there are some people on here who need to occasionally tone down their biting wit. However unless people tell me about them there is nothing I can do about it. So don't huff in silence, tell uncle Mario* whats wrong...... thats me by the way. *needless Boosh reference...

As I've got older (am I the oldest on here at 45?) I think I might be getting more tolearnt - well, I do hope I am!
What's good about dropping by here is that we're all part of the retro scene, and should be helping/encouraging others. I'm really keen to encourage more young 'uns (see, I must be ageing) to get involved in the whole movement - and I promise you I bang the drum incessantly for this site with a certain big old car committee I'm involved with...
Fair play to all those who worked to get this site up, running, and growing. I'm looking forward to being back in 2008.

Its the only car forum I regularly visit, but from previous experience its the best in attitude from its members generaly. Though some of the biting comments put me off, theres just no need for it. What gets my goat even more is constant bashing of 'travellers', 'chavs', and immigrants when something gets vandalised or nicked. Ive lose count how many times ive read "traveller scum" or "chav low-life", I understand the frustration, and its out of order of course, but coming out with things like "Ill burn their faces off" and "drag them down the road behind my car" aint nice, easy to say sat behind a computer screen and type that sh*t. Seems thats its acceptable though. Its just racism and snobbery repackaged. Mmm.. that was slightly ranting, but it p's me off. RR FTW though eh aux (ex-traveller) ps. Fact of the day: 'chav' comes from the gypsy word meaning 'little man'

this place is really friendly , were only human after all and sometimes theres clashes lets face it were animals at the end of the day ( or early in the morning ) so its amazing that so many people with such a wide variety of taste get along at all i see this forum as a collective of people from all different aspects of the old motoring spectrum and as such we represent our own "scenes" and were doing that pretty well it could be worse , it could be like the NSRA ( no offence to members but they hate each other lol ) i like the lack of " you havnt welded -- to -- your going to die in a big ball of post 30s not a real hot rod flames . people don't have to justify their skills or knowedge over here and that has to be comended

Yeah, I still find it pretty friendly but there is the odd argument lately. I'll put it down to it being winter, not the best time of the calendar for car fans, people tend to be fed up in general (I certainly am!). I don't mind constructive criticism, but some people set out deliberately to grate and that isn't on really. The best way is to rise above it, as usually a reaction is what they are after. They'll quickly get bored and move on.
Anyway, cheer up HW, your efforts on the forum/site/show are much appreciated by me at least! Have a sit in the Charmant, does wonders for my stress, I think the brown/beige/lace combo is relaxing, either that or the petrol fumes.

Hirst's right - even I ended up being lambasted by one member, and I chose to ignore it. I'll admit it gave me a sleepness night, but I think far and beyond most people here are helpful, informative and a good laugh too.

I must say this is one of the friendliest and helpful forums i have come across - havn't come across any attitude as of yet. I'm interested in older cars, but currently cant afford one, but i find this site very useful to swot up on the info i need to know and get some inspiration.

most of what goes on here is great and friendly with it. there are some aroma's that invade the nostrils, but the best thing is leave them to it. when no-one talks to them they either leave alone for a while or throw their toys out the pram like twinspark. I'd rather people stayed and worked things out. but if its not for them, then hey-ho. still the best forum around

I reckon the 'warning' system that this forum builder gives Admin access to should be used more. Just a thought.

There may be the odd big ego or attitude problem but the situation is still better than any other forum ive been on. Some forums are terrible!
Your never going to have a perfect forum, I think this is as close as it gets.
Thanks for putting all the hard work in Mr Hotwire. *group hug!*

Can I throw my tuppenceworth into this? This is a very, very good site, period. 99.99% of the contributors are nice people, what more can you say? The biggest problem with it is a problem that crops up on all well establshed sites, namely "Phantom Moderators". You all know who they are, the post whores who are always witty, know more than, name drop and feel it is their sworn duty to police the site. Like clockwork, they cruise up and down its threads to ensure compliance to the whole ethos of RR and, of course, to be rude and arrogant to those who, unwittingly, dare to post anything off topic, whether it be in error or not. If you disagree with their take on things, you are not a REAL RR fan, they only tend to respond to their prefered chosen few who post and, generally, most ordinary humans would rather eat their own colons than share a car ride with them. Just occasionally a metaphorical kick in the testicles from the real moderators would, I feel, let those few know that it is NOT their bloody site! Anybody that I have met from this site is probably aware that I am not the loudest or particulary in "yer face" but there are elements within this site that boils my p*ss. I know i don't post much, but I'm still relevant This is Rob AKA Zeb, whos almost 43 (and feels every year of it) signing off. Have a happy and prosperous year!

This forum has the lightest moderation I have come across anywhere. Either that or HW et al are on stuff so fast noone notices!
either way, it's a pretty cool place. Sometimes it goes through stages where there are a few posters that seem to get all the attention while some esxcelent posts are ignored because they aren't by a current popular poster, but that's forums for ya and it's not a big problem compared to everywhere else on the internet.
even the troll seem to pretty much stay away. for such a well known foru, it's pretty troll free!
