so, the purchase of a daily driver means you can get on with a few things so ive started getting cracked on with the slag. most of the dash and any extra wiring i added has been taken out. I'm gonna make a new loom for it using the standard loom as a base and adding/removing. I'm also going to mount a fuse and relay board inside the glovebox so so far, ive stripped all the sound dedening out tomorrow I'm going to chop the standard seat rails out aswell so i can fit some 1" CDS tube between the tunnel and sill. you can also see in the pics my hydraulic handbrake is in however with drums i find its not relaible, works as and when it wants to, so a disc braked axel is on order i feel.

haha, cool ;D a bit of further progress. after removing the sound dedening it had left the floor stained and with a few bits stuck to it still, some white spirit and a stiff brush later and its nice and clean! i also put one of my seats back in just dropped on the floor! soon realised that its rediculously low and you cant actually see anything. my shoulder was about level with the bottom of the window so its definitely going on some seat rails across the tunnel to the sill ive also started a "blog" as its easy to update with pics, chrispinches.blogspot.com/

thought i hadn't seen you around lately...........i sometimes see you on the heysham bypass (racetrack ) is your old man the one who's just gone to ian's from cumb. view? i work next door at grahams.....alex does work on my cars.....when i can't be arsed/find time....or if it's too hard ;D you might recognise my cars........i had a green vr6 passat estate.....now a blue v6 syncro.....P17SAT. we'll have to meet up at halton or wherever.........i've been trying to sort something out with shane from harrisons.....but i'm too busy/lazy again! take it easy.........and keep up the good work

i use the first section of the bypass before going left at the roundabout round the middleton backroads for "testing" if you like ;D
aye my dads just moved from CVG to david and ians couple of months ago yeh. i recognise the reg but cant picture the car haha
keep an eye out for us, i'll be in the diesel bus usually

What problems are you getting with the handbrake with drums. Ive often found that hydraulic handbrakes and drums work very well (Often better than discs) and usually require less effort to lock up.

I'm finding them really hit and miss. just not reliable enough for me to be able to trust it working every time i go for it. i find that if your not in 1st or 2nd and accelerating when you pull it then it doesnt work at all. i was told by one of my mate who used to service mk1 escorts for the works teams back in the day that on gravel they would trim the brake shoe material down. this meant it exerted more presure (imagine a snow shoe vs a stilletto heel). i might try trimming the shoe material down or getting competition linings or i may just sack the whole affair off and fit mk4 golf discs i havent done owt to the polo for a week or so, i seam to be a welder short of some progress

small update. new lamp brackets made at uni as a small learning to TIG project I'm currently saving up to buy a cage and get the shell prepped which is why not alot is happening!

got a "home study week" from uni, so ive buggered off home to mooch about with stuff on my car first off, some stainless bolts on my ARB blocks, and also my ARB clamps zinc'd (thanks to spaniel for hooking me up) really wish i'd got the plates done now aswell, i think i will take them off and take them back with me to get done as they seam to let the whole setup down! or i may remake them in stainless....**ponders** i also fitted my new stainless bolts into my Vernier pulley i made then i cracked on with fitting my spotlamp brackets! designed and made them myself from 6mm aluminium and TIG'd. these should allow me to run 4 spots in a 2up 2 down fashion, although some bumper choppage is required! i think I'm going to get the brackets anodised black as they're a bit bling for my liking. thats pretty much it recently, i discovered today that the tin panel that the rad sits on is proper goosed, so i think I'm going to make a new one from 2"x1" oblong box section and get it powder coated i also finished stripping out the back and a random front end shot before i kicked off today

watch out using stainless in load bearing situations, its dosent have a very good fatigue limit and the tensile strength is about half that of a 10.9 bolt.
I would hate to see the engine lunched because that pulley decided to part company!
That welding is very nice indeed, what setup do you have?

the welder i used is at uni, its a proper huge TIG machine with a foot pedal i'll try and get a picture next time I'm in

just finished chopping the bumper to fit. now all i need is to finish my spotlamps and get something to actually hold my numberplate on, rather than it falling off on the first corner

i decided that leaving those brackets in natural aluminium was too bling for my liking so ive also bought a super quick release twin spare wheel carrier like this one and yesterday i repainted my spotlamps (one of which keeps reacting with the lacquer and going orange peeley grrr) to find that somone had kindly used my gun in the workshop, so i dumped my premixed lacquer into it and this happened yup! so now i have metal flake spotlamps!! looks normal black from a distance so I'm just going to leave it ;D
