Depends on what type of shafts you've got fitted. I'm assuming they're the outers your changing, one type of shaft the C.V joint just knocks off with a medium sized hammer, then you fit the new boot, whack the joint back on and job done. The other type of shaft is a bit tricky, the C.V joint is not designed to be removed and you need to invest in special cone tool and some stretchy boots which need to be turned inside out, lubricated and streched over the driveshaft. Its not really that bad a job, although bear in mind I used to to work for a peugeot garage and used to do it nearly every day, but if your compitent with the spanners you should have it done in a morning. If your doing the inners thats a slightly more complicated affair. The boot is actually a part of the C.V joint and holds it all together. You'll need to visit the main dealer for the bits and be prepaired to strip and reassemble the whole joint. Hope this helps.

basically what you said. A decent length power bar makes taking the driveshaft nut off easier. Need to make sure car is in gear with someones foot on the brakes as well. Never done a 206 but normally on peugeots you got to disconnect the bottom ball joint from the strut to get enough clearance for getting the driveshaft out of the hub. Then tap the CV joint of with a hammer try not to pull the driveshaft out from the diff(passenger side only drivers side will be held in a support bearing) slide the new boot up the shaft. Clean the joint with WD40 to get any bits of grit out otherwise you will be fitting a new joint soon as well. Slide the joint back on the shaft making sure the circlip sits in the groove (these have a tendency to slip out and jam causing much annoyance ;D) Fill the joint with grease fasten the boot back on be prepared to chuck those nasty metal clips away when either you put them on wrong or don't get it tight enough have a couple of big tie wraps ready as an emergency. Then refit as remove. Next pour one gallon of unleaded over said car apply lighted match and stand well back. Then purchase proper car ;D ;D ;D only joking ;D

To make life easier i allways take the shaft off the car and clamp it in a vice to work on it. You can either drain the gearbox oil into a clean container and reuse it or just refill with new oil. If you don't know when the oil was last changed it'd probably be a good idea to renew it. To remove the offside shaft you'll need to undo the two 11mm nuts behind the center bearing and ease it out with the trusty hammer and a fair sized drift/screwdriver ;D.

Just finished working on a Saxo with knackered brakes for a friend, (couldn't convince her to get an old car you see!) it's working now but for a while there I was considering the "tragic accident" route on it myself, until I remembered just how a jerry-can-full of petrol actually is these days and didn't bother! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Oh, and I prefer 4 star for the job myself, smells nicer! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Can you still buy 4star in scotland? all you can get down here is LRP curse word.

We still get it in Greenock, and a couple of other towns that nobody really knows exist or gives a f*ck about, but it's getting pretty hard to come by, I'm thinking that the new engine I'm looking to get'll have to run on unleaded because we don't get LRP much round here either and it's sh*te anyway!

How about one of those 'split' CV boots that you put round the shaft and glue together? I used one on a landcrab a few years ago, seemed to work okay if you're careful and take your time.

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

Only use them split boots if you are just about to sell the car. If you are keeping it you are just wasting money and making more work for yourself later
