Smaller turbo is an option, even a T2 is able to keep up with the 1275, then again its more work. I'm looking for an off the shelf exhaust but havent had any luck so far, would rather have something subtle. Good luck with the project! athough i wouldnt call it the 'exact same thing'

Hi metro1275, welcome. I'm sure your post is fine here, why not start your own thread too, to introduce us to your project (s) It it bad news if you accidently crunch straight cut gears, or is there no danger over normal gears? I had planned to do this on my head-dream-plan-escort!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Its not actually the gears that crunch, as they are all constantly meshed together. When you miss a gear the noise that you hear is actually the scyncros taking a beating. Now in a Dog 'box this noise is nearly always heard (dependant on rpm matching) as there is no scyncro, but the faster you push it into gear the less wear actually occurs.
The gear crunching situation comes with so called 'crash' 'boxes, when using these the gears move around and you push one into the next to engage the gear, no scyncros no dogs no nothing! It can get very expensive if you don't rev match and take it real easy!

apparently not - or am I off kilter. Thought with 'normal' boxes - you need to be gentle on the synchro's as they engage and bring the necessary assoc'd cog up to speed........ so ramming it in causes more wear on 'em.
But I may have been listening to my old man talk twaddle again! ;D

ahh but 'dog boxes' arnt true dog boxes they are just a normal box with no syncros.
Swiftune make a 'proper' dog box called slick shift or something which works like a motorbike box and by all accounts is pretty good.

Very nice Metro, like the wheels and weldone on the restoration!! Would like to feature this car on the www.metropower.co.uk 1.3 gallery as we are short on the mk1's and this is a fab exemple! Shame the mk1 is super rare nowadays! Keep up the good work.

It looks like a Golf with that window blanked out, Yeah...But for some reason that little window gets on my nerves...It's like the car design equivelant of excess elbow skin. Not in the slightest We're a friendly bunch...We don't drive Elises, claim they're the greatest cars ever made and that they are perfect from the factory whilst blithely ignoring the dull, crashing, knackered stock suspension which was nailed together on a budget. Have a look around - the range of stuff here is immense. We like ingenuity, subtlety (not always ) and oddness... An '82 miniMetro (weren't they only badged that for one thursday afternoon in the early eighties?) sitting very low on banded steels, with new metal welded in where required, painted beige and running a Metro Turbo engine is very, very cool. A Rover 100 with some stick-on halfords bits and overspray everywhere isn't cool. I guess we're more about the effectiveness of the job done... *n

Slater, I dunno what you've spent on your VERY cool Metro, but this 100 has had £4000 spent on it! I know all of us here would agree that your car is a zillion times better! Congratulations Slater for making THE BEST EVER Metro. You're a star,no doubt about it.

So far £400 on the car £110+75 on tyres/tubes and fitting Maybe £150 on paint and consumables £35 on new rad. So thats about £770 so far.
I figure engines going to cost me about £300 in parts and gearbox/clutch/drops/diff would cost £1500ish if i go for straight cut. Then say another £300 on intercooling, fuel pump and all the other bits n bobs it takes to to a turbo conversion.
£2870 total budget. Alot of car for that money i think

Every time I see a five-door Metro, I want to sort that rear side window out... *n I think it's called an opera window. Why I don't know, but yeah they look wrong! My metro has them, and 5 door Saab 99/900's have them too.
