18/04/2011 Sunday was the first outing for the Chevette at the Drag Strip down at Shakespeare County Raceway for round 1 of the NSCC. My first run was worse than last year, 2.6 second 60ft and a 15.01 @ 94 mph last seasons best was 14.5 @ 92 mph with a 1.98 60ft so I was really losing out on the start line but gaining at the top end. The lack of lsd is really killing the launches off the start line. With a little more care off the start line I got down to 14.66 @ 97 mph but still only a 2.3 60ft. So back to the pits for some fettling, it felt like it was losing power higher in the rev range so I changed the needles to had a little bit more fuel and open up the plug gaps like the MSD instructions said and tried again. The result was 14.32 @ 96mph and a 60ft of 2.16, which is a NPB ;D that was with wheels spin in 1st and second. Just need an LSD now and I'm sure there's a 13 in it

I managed to leave the Chevette alone for a few days over the bankholiday weekend which gave me chance to paint the garage floor. Much better than the oil soaked carpet i had down before and no more sharp slithers of metal sticking in my knees

How handy- if you cut yourself you'll never know. Or if you murder someone in there the fuzz will never know.

I like this a lot! Hey, those 4ha axles are gaining lots of respect, I have a couple to go on each of my Mantas and know of people putting 500 bhp+ through them! Yep they'll easily take 500bhp ******************************************************************************************************** 26/05/2011After a short wait my Birthday present has finally turned up all the way from the US of A A nice big shiny aluminium radiator It's the biggest i could get that would fit between the chassis rails and is twin core with each core tube 1" wide so I'm hoping it will cure my on going cooling issues. So out with the old. And out with the grinder, i decided the best place for it would be in front of the crossmember, so a small incision was needed in the front valance. And in with the new. Sticks out of the bottom a little But is hidden by the numberplate for that sleeper look The crossmember will need a little bit of a notch in it to clear the outlet. Slightly thicker than the old 406 rad. Not worked out how to mount it yet but some head scratching over the weekend should find a solution ;D More soon

31/05/2011Been cracking on with the mountings for the new rad. Made brackets for either side which support the tanks on either side of the rad and notched the cross member. These are joined with a aluminium plate that supports the radiator core. And it sits in like this, had to lean it back a bit as thats the only way i could get it in. From the front. The brackets have been extended so that the numberplate doesn't angle back as much like so, This leaves a gap so air can get to the radiator core, I'm thinking of making a discreet air scoop under the number plate to guide air into the rad but I'll have to see what ground clearance is like once the car is off the ramps. Upper mounts next
