Looks good, keep up the good work. So cars rust also in Germany and not only in Finland... thanks ! Well , i have heard, that the cars in scandinavia are in better condition as in germany, as they cost and arm and a leg when new due to the tax, and people really take care of them... i think the condition of the older cars is much better in scandinavia than in germany... looking at polardegos white Mk.I Passat i must confess, that i never saw such a good car before; the silver Passat came from Bavaria, they have a lot more snow then we have here, and also they have to put more salt on the roads... but the anti rust protection of VWs of this era wasn't the best, add some designed-to-rust construction and this is the result....

Well, there may be a bit of luck involved too, I am 23 years old and I live in the most northern parts of sweden with the least rust problems, and still I cant remember that I've ever seen a rust-free Mk1 Passat... So do not think that Polardegos Passat is some common example.

As a Dutch guy living in Finland I know that both arguments as to why the other country's cars shouldn't be rusty are completely bogus ;-)

Ok, i think thats true. Here in finland they use salt on the roads very much and you can see the results. Even cars with low milage are very badly rusted, salt does it`s duty. But any way, good luck with welding! This era Passat is worth saving.

as i now have holidays (burnout syndrome) what is better to relax than going in the workshop ? Today was the day to put the wheels back on .... the lift needs moving, not so easy with half a Passat on it.... i had to put the hub back on, so took of the chassis paint from the flange and did a nice pic... don't worry, there will be completely new brakes in the future, that was just for moving... i will be fitting the later brakes, as they are self adjusting, i need new backing plates then, so i didn't paint them ... i was only searching 1 hour to find the wheel bearing and here we have the traditional forecast of finishing this project ... then i played with the wheels; i think that wouldn't be so bad (these are the winter tyres from the red Passat, which is still registered but will not be on the road when we have snow or salt), i could get away with those and the classic registration.... while i was playing with the fender, i remembered that Polardego gave this one to me for free.... though it is a repro it fits perfect... what a great guy he is stance could also be ok.... in the background you can see the 1.owner less 40.000 km Clio that's hibernating here.... though there are two things you can see from the moon, the chinese wall and the panel gaps on this car , but that will be something for the future... yes, i think these will be the wheels... can you read norwegian ? tomorrow a huge parcel with primer and some other goodies will be arriving, so we can go on .....
