thank you there fella,
Another fixie rider then.... please ignore my previous comments on fixies earlier in the thread. I have now seen the light and think that fixies are the way forwards- crikey... a few thousand riders in london cant be wrong.... with such cool looking riding gear.. what with the rolled up jeans and cool little caps! and woollen jerseys.
I'm going to sell all my geared bikes and buy an amazing fixie.
Also- i'm going to remove 4 of the gears out of my Rx3 gearbox..because changing gears takes precious time and the time saved from maintaining all those gears I can better use playing bicycle polo, riding tall bikes about london plus try to coax more people into the cool life of cycling by blocking the roads up on a given friday night (critical mass) and riding naked.
If you are not one of my work mates trying to wind me up please ignore the above...but please do think- how fast would the tour riders be if they just rode one gear?...would be a bit boring ;D

The problem I can see is that if you removed 4 of the gears from the RX3 you will be spending all your time going in reverse, which in Darwinian terms would be a backwards step down the evolutionary tree......

nothing wrong with a 100e!!! you could very very easily drop a mazda 12A into that- with room to spare! - and in a little car not only would it be fast and turbine smooth but thirfty too.
I wouldnt mind a 105e once back in NZ and do some sort of conversion with it!

Cheers guys, i'm bl--dy happy with progress for sure but 4 weekends to go and still lots to do before its n the road for RR meet at gaydon. I'm rebuilding master cylinder tonight and painting servo- done all the brake lines and fuel lines. Then pop the heart up onto bench and give it a scrub, polish the alloy rotor housings, paint the steel endsplates/middle plste- same colour as car. Then plonk it into car with gearbox attached. Rad to paint. Wiring to shorten/lengthen/bend/hide/add to/subtract from. Carpets back in and thesn seats. strip/paint the rear lights. wheels to clean/polish/paint. new tyres needed... MOT! gotta also try for tax free status via friend of friend whos does this sorta stuff.

love the restore, I'm currently restoring my lancer ex turbo, and trying to find someone to spray it, but after seeing what youve done, I'm going to do mine myself, done a little before. i see your location is nz, i saw some awesome rx3's when i was over there, with hugh intercoolers and powerful rx7 engines. also love the pic near the begining of the rx3, silvia and lancer turbo all lined up.

hi there turbonige, I'm from NZ but living in england at the mo. Lots of rx3s back home- most have been through alot of owners and very few are original untouched so i was really happy to get a one owner car! loads of older jappa cars left back in NZ! last time home in blenheim i remember seeing an old dear doing the shopping run in a mint toyota corolla SR coupe- she must've been in her eighties!

hello again, not so much progress recently as Hannah and i were to spend last week in scotland mtbing but due to predicted s--t weather we got last minute flights to here... Sardinia- Italy ahhhhh...heaven. so one week in the sun and not much done. We free camped where possible, not taking our pushbikes this time. Boy i missed them..lots of walking! The italians don't allow free camping- had to do a runner from some cop bloke and hid in the bush- slept on rocks. forgot sleeping mats..not comfy at all. Next mornings breakie of salami sandwichs in sun.... Hot- 30 degrees! 20 degrees at 10pm!!! but we did hire a car for one day and i was fortunate to be able to pilot this beastie.... Any way...back to the Rx3! On sunday i spent some more suntime bending/shaping new fuel and brake lines outta copper pipe... Much nicer than the rusty steel pipes they replaced. I also finished the last of the painting under car- all now protected by supertough epoxy mastic. I fitted the remaining seals for doors and and windows. Then fit rear seats after running battery cable through some conduit. Also fit tank back in. No rust inside it- sweet! Hannah and I sat in back seat pretending car was finished...almost- not long ;D Last night the engine was pulled out from woodshed and plonked onto bench. Will clean, polish and paint this weekend. Not going anal on this one as i plan more work on it later on in year..plus i just have to get this car on the road for RR show!!!

engine is in! ;D I spent saturday cleaning and polishing it then painted it on sunday- same colour as car. Only colour I thought wouldnt clash..... cleaned painted sump...no holes- sweet. Had to make little plate to cover Oil metering pump outlet..i'll be running premix. dug the gearbox outta pile behind woodshed. its an upside down world out there..turn ya monitor around... Its a 5 speed rx7 one- only issue will be it will touch rx3 box mounts but a hammer... I had already modified the gear stick position ages ago as this ws hayden box for his 3 but hes gone back to the standard 10A engine and box. I ground down seam on bellhousing and polished it as well Out with old chain hoist and.... dropped engine in on sunday night to check the clearance issues on box... Box was sat too low and once pushed up forther to line up mount faces it was only just scraping those body mounts. Pulled engine out and hammered away last night- it only needed 5mm each side and now with engine back in its fine! ;D wicked!!!!! I'm so happy with how it looks in there. Even with the little rx3 bay it still looks low and small! Also nice to see car finally drop to right height with weight up front... mean stance Making gbox mount outta 6mm plate and it'll all be solid tonight! next up- I make exhaust.
