This weeks installation is brought to you by LONGCAT: I've just been lucky enough to enjoy a 5-day weekend where Ms_Bol is not around, this NEVER happens and I was gobbing off at work last week that "Just you wait, that maser is gonna be welded up and driving around after this weekend" to my colleagues, Sadly progress has been dismally slow, due to (among other things) One day lost changing the clutch in a friend's horrible Astra diesel builders van; One day lost arsing around with my mate shifting this manky Austin 1300 (which was in fact my first ever car back in the day) One day lost to chundering, headaches and sleeping Plus the usual plums about eating, tidying the house, taking the cat to the vet etc Which means i've barely got one decent day in on the Maz. HOPELESS! Anyway here is what I have done. last time I was up to about here, needed to make a new outrigger thing for the front edge of the floor, where the old one had turned to crisps: The old outrigger was curved in all possible directions, so I wasn't sure how best to start. after some Vic Reeves 'The Ponderers' style chin-scratching I made the rearmost side of it first of all: That would go in about here: next I made a piece to locate it in the corner like on the other side: Like so: With that clamped in I cleaned up the raggy lower edge of the inner arch and started to plate the chassis leg: Made a piece to close that corner off (the inner arch would hopefully form the forward edge of the outrigger, as per the other side): Now it was looking something like this: Another patch on the inner wheelarch to finish that edge: Heres the rear view of that, plenty of the old weld-through paint on there: Put the outrigger rear edge back on and clamped it all up: Zapped that on, it went on pretty nicely: punched the lower edge of the inner arch ready for a piece to close off the top of the outrigger. Also slathered on the weld-thru: Next I started trimming a piece to box off that outrigger: Welded on: Finished off with a good old grinder/flapwheel attack: And thats it!!!! Look at the state of the floor now, looks like about 80% new metal!!!! That was probably the worst bit of rot on the car so thats a decent milestone really. Obv I still have to put the outer sill on, do the L/H front wing tip and do something about the chassis leg but that does feel like a good bit of forward motion, even if its not as much as i'd hoped. Hopefully get that seam sealed and primed tomorrow night if all goes to plan. Cheers!

SUPERB work as ever.
You're like some sort of mig-wielding Pokemon character (Weldemon), I'd like to carry you around with a team of other mechanically-minded creatures and just chuck you all at whatever hopeless old car takes my fancy so you can just magically blezz through all the annoying stuff that I have no clue how to do and get it looking and driving brilliant. Seems like a pretty realistic dream to me.
