Bit of a copy pasta update, so some reposted pics sorry
Car is back at Sinco to get a few little things finished off we don't have time to do.
Exhaust Notch Chassis rails for bumpstops Make some doorcards Do water piping Make an Ali undertray for boot area to cover bottom of fuel cell and pumps And a couple of other little bits
Moving lockups and being busy as at work means no time for car.. after that its just wiring really! I also am sending my turbo off to be rebuilt so the hiatus/laziness from the last burst I did at start of year is over lol
Got my car tuned after a mishap with the timing belt :/ Lucky the tuner spotted it!
330kw atw with massive torque, maxed out the map sensor so had to stop at 20psi
Then I broke an axle
Which I managed to get fixed inside a week
In time to attend a local Clubs dragday, good weather and good times
Didn't run very good times the best was 13.5 mainly due to shifting issues and total lack of grip lol. Not sure if the shifting issues were the driver or box oil being too heavy
Awesome Looks like a cool drag club - all interesting cars
Its not a drag club per se, Infact it was the first time they had held a drag event. But they have lots of events every year, trackdays, poker runs, gymkhana etc.
Hello all, bit of an update. Car has been on the road for a about 10 months, have had a curse word load of fun
Police and fire dept turned up to this because of the amount of smoke, people complained 4 blocks away!
I am on my 4th gearbox now, saving up for a decent race box or similar but that won't be till next year I would say.
Changed wheels a few times
15x7.5 and 15x8.5 SSR Reverse mesh
13x5 makes for a lol time on the street with 300ish Kw! 5th gear power skids anyone?
15x7 and 15x9 Watanabe
Also hit a dip in the road that ripped my sump plug out, lucky I was going slow and noticed the massive trail of oil behind me... No damage done luckily
Currently putting in my 4th gearbox and getting it ready for a fun event this weekend which I will post pics of if I get my pre done in time!
So I got my gearbox rebuilt and took my rocker cover off to get the coil mounts changed cos it kept breaking the capscrews off. Before i put the box in I decided to check the clutch and what I found was not good.
So yeah pretty much stuffed.
Obviously the flywheel had to come off to be machined so we set about taking that off, except when I touched it it moved? Uh oh.... Massive amounts of play... So we ripped that off and found this
curse word!
So then I was convinced by some likely lads to pull the motor and see what was what.
Then ta dahhhhh!!!
All hail the snapped crank in all its glory.
With Jerkfest 3 weeks away this is obviously not ideal, current options are tear motor down and check for damage and reassemble with another 2.4l crank. Or drop in my spare 2.0 dohc engine and run it N/a while I save for a forged crank and a decent gearbox with twin or triple plate setup.
such a great build, looks so understated from the outside.
can i have some more info on the rear axle? seems pretty stout with what youre doing, L200 you say? can i just see that its redrilled in your snapped shaft pic? i take it its narrowed?
Yeah its an L200 diff which is Limited slip, maybe a mighty max over there? 1990s shape anyway. It has been shortened enough to fit a 10 inch rim under the rear guards. Which is all well and good until you have to buy 10 inch wide rims and the tyres to go with them lol, so in hindsight i probably wouldn't have got it made so short tbh. Basically they cut the axle then machine a spigot into it which they freeze and then heat the other end of it so it fits in, then weld and machine off.
Awesome car, looking at doing something similar in the rear with mine, just wonted to get some more info on the shocks you run and how there setup, would be a huge help, !
Completely missed this thread before, stunning car! Love the stock body with the fitment and wheels you'd never believe the level of work underneath, absolutely amazing.
