On Saturday night (29th March 2008) a member of www.oldskoolford.co.uk was driving his car to a meet when his car broke down in Isle of Sheppey so it was parked on the hard shoulder until it could be recovered. Overnight the car was stolen!! The car is a Mk2 Granada 2.8i Ghia Estate registration number B764CMF & was fitted with very distinctive alloys! Please keep an eye out for this car, I seriously hope it hasn't been stolen to use on the track!

I'll cross-post on the banger sites for you & see if anything can be turned up...
Being a non-theiving banger racer myself & not wishing to re-start the hackneyed old debate, that area sadly is about the worst place in the country you could leave a mk1/2 granada overnight on the side of the street.
Any identifying marks other than the wheels?

Update, it wasn't parked on the hard shoulder, it was parked in a layby & the window had been put through as there was glass on the ground

Where was it nicked from?
I'll tell you what p|sses me right off, whenever you go anywhere there are a million CCTV cameras trained on the motorways, junctions, town centres, everywhere you go. The M25 is absolutley covered with them for one. You'd think it would be a simple matter to look at the CCTV footage and wait to see a truck coming through in the night with a Granada on the back and track down the trucks owner and burn his house down while he slept. Yet I bet you'd not even persuade anyone to get the tapes down off the shelf for a stolen 'old car' never mind look at a nights worth of footage and do a bit of detective work.

It broke down somewhere on Isle of Sheppey, it was parked up in a layby & left overnight to be recovered.
The thieving little gits put the window in & had it away

That's curse word. Unfortunately I bet it's already stripped and ready to race by now with no ID marks. Note to self - sleep in car if it breaks down. My old man had a similar Mk2 until recently and only sold it because he was fed up of banger racers following him/asking him to sell. Basically if you own an old big ford or big J saloon or A60 Farina PUT A STEERING WHEEL FULL CLOSURE LOCK ON IT. Otherwise it'll disappear.
Shame.

PUT A STEERING WHEEL FULL CLOSURE LOCK ON IT. Umm, if we are talking banger racers these guys not only have big angle grinders and big hammers but also will have access to spare steering wheels/columns for all the popular bangers.... I think you'd have to chain the car to the nearest lamp post with hi tensile lifing chain to seriously put them off. Even then there is always 'the bottles' If they want it it will go. Any deterrent is good for your average scrap hunting traveller though. A good trick is to turn the wheels on full lock and make sure the steering lock clicks on, that way taking away quickly with a harvey frost/spec lift quickly becomes harder. Agreed The banger racer thing is totally done to death. I used to race bangers, there are a lot of sound guys and a lot of total gypo scum. Part of the reason I gave it up.

its almost certainly been stolen since then!
If I had a mk2 id have a remote self destruct button that I could press if I found it had been stolen. That would teach the sticky fingered scumbags. Probably.
