Contracts exchanged last Monday. Completion on Thu 12th Nov - they didn't want to complete on Fri 13th!
I've had a chat with my favoured builder and he's going to come over and have a look when I take possession. I reckon my available budget won't be enough for what I wany so I'm hoping he will have some cost-saving ideas. I'll sketch out what I want, show him the plot and see what he says.
Bikes, not my thing. You can't get knocked off a car, unless you're being really stupid of course!

Fingers crossed the quote comes in ok for you - I was quoted between £18k and £50k(!) to build my one, a friend had a brick/block built single garage and that cost him £7k. Bikes are great - you can't get trapped inside one when it's on it's roof and on fire - safe as houses mate

Your mate's is about twice what I can afford! Me-thinks I'm being a bit ambitious...........
My fall-back plan is to pick up a second-hand concrete sectional double garage off ebay second hand (around 5-600 quid usually) and add a car port to the side. Then in about 7 yrs time I should be able to afford to build the proper triple garage.

Already there! No garages yet but have today hopefully secured a nearly new IKEA bed that I was going to buy anyway - should save about £200 towards the garage!

Forgot to say earlier, I reckon mine will be built for less than £9k in the end, maybe a bit less than that - and that's just materials, muck shifting and equipment hire. I'm going to tot it all up when I'm done to see exactly what it has cost If you need any advice when it comes to yours - even if it's only about how much stuff costs, just gimme a shout Your mate's is about twice what I can afford! Cheers Mate! Can't see the pics as I'm at work so will have a look later. Definitely think I'll have to go the 2nd hand concrete double garage plus car port route initially.

Get them on. Out of interest, how much were they each and could you not have made them yourself? Is it special timber or just pressure treated soft wood? Good luck with the rest of the build, cant wait to see it coming together.

It cost £600 for the trusses, delivery, all the bracing and the metal brackets. There's 21 trusses in total, so roughly £28.50 each. The timber doesn't look very special to me, it's just treated, planed softwood.
I did think about making the roof myself, but I just don't have the time, and I suspect that buying the wood to make them would probably cost just as much. Granted it would have been nice to have a useable loft space, but even with these, I can still cram some stuff up there!
This weekend (and today seeing as I'm off work) should see the finish of all the 'building' work on the walls and putting the wall plates on, which will leave me free to have a day off at some point with Monsieur Gimp and get them up!
Probably ought to decide on what tiles to get now... Roughly 65m2 of them required, can't imagine that will be too cheap either. Damn my empty wallet!

I worked at a roof truss company for a little while. There was a man that set up the jigs on the huge bench. Then I put all the bits of wood in the right places. Then the metal plates on the joins. Wasnt any glues or chemicals put on. so should be easy enough to make the trusses yourself.

Have been following this with interest but shouldn't those walls have supporting piers somewhere along their length to add strength?

They have! They're just not finished yet... They're all up to just about the top of the bricks, the first one is just to the right of the first door (4 piers down each side), and I've actually started on the blocks on that one! There are stainless wall ties all the way up to 'attach' the piers to the main wall.
Didn't actually get anything done over the weekend... Whoops!

Right - could see the piers lower down but not the ties in readiness further up - Should've known you had it sussed though looking' forward to the next stage . . .
