Just seen this, I forgot how much I love/d them. Was my mums ultimate car when she was alive.
As you say, daily driver, so it stays, and actually looks just fine to me on normal height.

Cheers for the comments guys. I cleaned it yesterday and it rewarded me by not starting. It's never not started. We got it going in 20 mins and I think it's that solenoid thing on the bottom of the Pierburg carb. Anyway, I digress.
IS THAT MERC ESTATE STILL IN THE SCRAPYARD trg1984? We need to hunt it down and strip it for spares asap! PM me scrap yard number if you can

After a good clean the curse word thing rewarded me by not starting. First time in 4 years! It's something to do with the solenoid at the bottom of the carb. if I disconnect it the car starts and runs fine. Dies as soon as I connect it. Odd. Think the solenoid is stop running on. Wish I'd never cleaned it!

I love W123s so much that mine is no longer for sale! What was I thinking?
Lovin' the estate. Wish I'd hung on and got a load lugger myself. Saloons are so impractical!

I miss my old 200T. In fact, I'm trying to trace the current owner of it and try and nab it back off him. Last known where abouts was Londaaaaan. T's are fabulously cool and look the nuts on Empi 5's. My old one is in the readers rides section somewhere in the depths of time looking tre goth and sitting pretty on Empi 5's.

It's awesome, I even like the ride height (although if it where mine I don't think I could resist hard slamming it ;D)
Never drive a Merc need to find out what all the fuss it about, loads of people on hear love em!

Besides, I've slammed a daily on the deck before and it looked great but was a pain. I will never drop a ride ever again without juice.... Agreed. My Lada is cool slammed, but most daily trips need an hours planning to avoid speed bumps! I'm gonna get a standard one as a daily. Merc looks sooooo cool btw.

Love it, and totally agree with not slamming daily's, just gets annoying (it probably also partly to blame for me crashing the Superminx!) Plus it looks great the way it is, don't think slamming it would actually improve the looks due to the off the wall colour scheme ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Not been on here for ages due to working abroad almost solidly. Merc MoT ran out 2 weeks ago and now it's a true rust fest. It would be easier to buy another car, but I can't bear to let her go. Tim @ Roadhouse Retro has started grafting in new sills and rear arches. I need inner rear arches but no one seems to have them. Can anyone help? Any of these being broken? I need a section under one of the rear side window....

Can't help on the Merc front but I took a photo of a dodgy looking geezer in a blue jacket on Sunday....

Thanks for the link levismerc. I am bookmarking that site. Speedle - that's the wife's motor. She adores it. And seems to damage it a lot. I am always looking for bits for it.
Latest news on the Merc is the MoT ran out in Sept and she's off the road. Tim @ Roadhouseretro.com has cut off the old back arches and I have found N.O.S german new ones. Inners are proving to be a cock to find. Finally I have found a solid donor for both rear side window panels so they are being cut off by a bloke in Leek and posted. It has occurred to me that I should probably quit this daily hack and buy a newer/faster/shinier car as a replacement but it breaks my heart to leave ye olde 200T to die. The rest of the car seems solid and although the engine is nearly 200,000 miles strong I know it's not ready to give up. A W124 is a better daily driver, faster and more comfortable but it doesn't have chrome and it doesn't make my wand rise. People don;t seem to use W123s as dailies anymore. They are used by collectors and London fashion curse word. Thing is, it's too useful so it's gotta be put to work.
Will keep you posted on progress but I want her MoTd asap again. Miss driving it. And besides, if I look for a replacement 230TE or 300TD W123 they all seem to be just as rotten, but better hidden. Am i right?

If it makes you feel better, just think how gratifying it is to spend money on someone with skills, rather than suffering depreciation - which is just burning money for no real benefit. I'm glad you're saving the old girl. Recycling what you've got is the future! (hence the hideous amount of money spent on bodywork for my 2CV and Mini in recent years).

I'm in a similar position with my Amazon at the moment, but once it's all done I know it will have been worth the cost and effort ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Daily driven w123 300td 5speed manual ![](http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/oo4/gasserjay/Gremlin012-1.jpg) ![](http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/oo4/gasserjay/v009.jpg) ![](http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/oo4/gasserjay/Gremlin015.jpg) I bought it off of ebay for £460 taxed and tested because I got pi$$ed off with my modern golf daily when it kept throwing up stupid fault codes for no reason. I was actually looking for a peugeot 405 estate non turbo diesel, because I used to hate peugeot's until I bought one for £50 to collect sand when I was rendering my house. I used to drive it 2 miles to the local quarry, fill the whole car with sand (about a ton and a half) and get the loading shovel to drag me to the weighbridge, then drive home dragging the exhaust all the way. Anyway to cut a long story short, the bar steward would not die and believe I tried, usual ending, mot and tax was due and it was easier to scrap than try to mot. BIG regret. Now ive got the 123 it feels like its going to go forever and it is a joy to work on. SAVE THE WAGON!!!!!!!!
