Been thinking about getting an engine to build up after iv finished putting all the current bits on the fez. I want to get a light engine, so have been looking at k-series and suzuki G13b out of a swift Gti. this will be for a future transplant into my fez. i also want to be getting up to 200bhp. anybody any experience with these engines, or other lightweight engines. if i could keep it under 1.6 to save tax that would also be a big bonus i am aware of a lot of hatred regarding the headgaskets on k-series, but thats not a big issue really. Thanks in advance, Kee

Reliant engine! 598cc one for the ickle win. Sorry, that might be very silly but it is light! First all-alloy production engine I think?

A K-series would be a good bet, 140bhp out of the 1.4 in Caterham Supersport spec and doubtlessly more if you ditch MEMS.

Cappuccino engine? I think they have been taken to ~200bhp but it would cost a fair bit. If you get a late spec J one they weigh about curse word all, being a tiny three cylinder all ally engine. I think it may fit a wagon R gearbox, not sure though.

I'd go rotary, Mazda 12a would fit the bill. There tiny, and for retrofit transplant purposes you can tax em on there actual capacity - 1146cc
There pretty damn cheap as well, £200 would see you with a complete one with a 5-speed hung behind it...

2 litre duratec from the mondeo will do what you want for virtually no money at all, its lighter than the x flow you have in there now, already fits on a fwd box and with TB's and mega squirt and a decent exhaust but no internal mods it will get very close to 200bhp while still being drivable, economical and relaible. duratec in a mk4 here www.ukfiestanetwork.com/index.php?showtopic=112247

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

Nice revvy light k-series. My 414 goes well with just filter & exhaust & will rev all day! 90 in 3rd on 17"s (speedo need calibrating...)
I imagine in a lil' fezza it'll be a blast!

fiat punto sporting 1242 twink. iron block with an alloy lowside and head, but still weighs only a few kg more than a reliant engine (i.e. sod all) due to there being nothing of it.

1.6 k series, with a big valve head, piper cams, TBs and emerald should see around 180bhp with good torque. and don't worry about head gaskets- put a new one on when you get it and just don't let it overheat and you'll have no problems. see here- www.dvapower.co.uk/

Surprised no-one's mentioned any bike engines! GSXR 1100 or 1300 Hayabusa, FJ1200, ZXR900, Ducati 916 as a wildcard? Pick an air or oil cooled one and you've done away with a whole pile more weight...

Bike engines are more hassle to transplant though, and not as streetable as car motors.
