I did a thing.
Got the bare dashboard flatted down

And started shoving some felt on it

Anyone for a spot of pegging


Came out ok, just need to motivate myself to pull the old one out of the car and put this one in it's place.

Spent most of yesterday reading this - what an awesome story. Wasn’t prepared at all for what happened on page 32 (I think it was page 32) but had a feeling there’d be a happy ending. Have to say you’re a better man than me Dave - I’d have chucked the towel in very early on, let alone kept on after the “repair” but I totally get why you did and nothing but respect to you for that.

Its really inspired me to go and get stuck into one of my projects. I didn’t, but I did wander over the garage and wander round it staring at various bits...

I must admit I might have started looking for Avengers for sale as well

Back of a fag packet and drop it off at the nearest loony bin

Used my day off productively.
Adjusted the valve clearances, cyclinders 3 and 4 had managed to close the gaps for some reason.
Fixed my heater fan, it had come loose and was jammed against the housing.
Fitted my re-covered dashboard, and wired in a stereo.
First time I've had a stereo in the car in the 12 years I've owned it.

You know when you look at something, and you just know it's exactly what you need?
Axle spacer from an old screw on bike hub I had kicking about has just taken all the slack out of my clutch cable.

Clutch pedal bites much higher now.
Don't know whether to get used to it or adjust the cable.

Also got the stereo working, as I'd forgotten to hook up one of the power leads

Lost all drive on the A14 on sunday
Expect lots of pictures and grumpiness in the next few days

Boo. Hopefully nothing too terminal.

Pulled the gearbox out today.
Found out the welds have split on the bell housing, so that'll need welding up again.

Also found out why I lost drive.
It's not worn out, it's disintegrated

Plenty of life left in that

So I've got my parts on order, just need to find someone to tig weld the bell housing

Too many hard launches in the traffic light grand prix!

What a nuisance for you. Easily sorted once you've found a welder?

Looks like they didn’t add enough filler rod when they welded it.
Should be ok if he gets it welded properly.

I've got a mate who can TIG aluminium, just waiting for him to get some more gas.

Moderately productive day
Got the remnants of my old spigot bearing out.
What's left of the old needle roller bearing

And fitted my new brass spigot bush, and the clutch

Also dropped the bell housing off with my mate to get tigged up

That'll be why the bell housing cracked.
Some people shouldn't be allowed near a welder.

Shouldn't that be a lot less bubbly and a lot more penetraty?
