Hell of a lot of impressive work there mate, I've just had a very interesting 42 page read ;D As someone who can just about hold their own welding bodywork, but has no idea how to START doing this kind of work on a water-cooled motor, I find this kind of thing mind blowing Just a quick question (sorry if it's been asked before), how does all the work on the underside of the body stand with the new rules on modifying a monocoque? It appears you did the bulk of the work before this point, but I wondered if you knew. Anyway, I can't wait for the next installment.........

Hi, i think crashtestmatt may be referring to the rules on modifying and registering of substantially modified or rebuilt vehicles, I apologies for jumping in if hes not, but its still worth being aware. DVLA give points for 'unmodified' and retained parts, 5 - body shell/chassis 2 - suspension 2 - axles 2 - transmission 2 - steering 1 - engine to retain the original Id and reg number you have to achieve at least 8. so in your case even if you discount altering the shell the max would be 5, so in the eyes of dvla your vehicle may not be considered the same vehicle as originally registered, Its substantially altered. It may also be required to under go an SVA test to register it. However, i take it its already registered in UK, its not an import so I'm not sure how the regulations apply, as you obviously don't need to 're register' it, or do you??. Unless DVLA are informed of major changes how do they know. You are I believe legally required to inform them if you change for instance the colour, engine size and fuel type to up date your V5. Again if you don't, which I'm obviously not suggesting, how will they know, but it may also affect insurance etc. One point is changing from Diesel to Petrol will obviously change the data input during an MOT and emissions test. With all the computerization are the VOSA and DVLA systems linked, Ive no idea. Its an issue I think just to be aware of and probably applies to lots of vehicles on this site,
Some one else may know and be able to advise.
In the mean time keep up the good work. will it be done for this summer!

Yeah, that's what I meant. Cheers Voyager for putting it into plain English for me ;D I'm not wanting to demean your Caddy in any way Adaptorman. As I've said, I think it's awesome, just curious as I have this vision in my head of a rear wheel drive Golf

hi pal right heres what ive done sent the log book off as a 2.8 turbo 4wd turbo had a engineers port , ( and have the paper work) regards sva , the chassi hasnt been removed just modifyed too , main bit witch is legal is the side pipe ........, had to remove it for the mot, i also went to vosa to ask about my car they stated , theys nothing they would do , long as the vechical is tax tested and insured correctly , ive emailed the insurance a full list of every modification of the car , hope this helps engines runing very well at 15psi at mo , oil temps, oil pressure, afr, timing, fueling map best its been so far ,, so thought id treat the caddy to another homemade header tank , made from alloy , as ebay prices are a dam rip off think ill make a quick water bottle 2moz too ,, fills a hole lol

had a thought today ,(yes another lol) about a post eailer in the therd , about wheel banding , so i tryed one , prob is i really need 17inch 7.5j rims hard to find , so i tryed one on 6.5j rims 15inch heres how it looks standard ones fit sound as stock on the front heres a quick pic and no rim cutting needed evern made a jig to re line the rims ,, unsure what to do , asi like how they fit on the fronts, as the tyes wount catch the archers when i slam it

yearh not a hard job , simple remove the inner welds turn rim , refit and aline with either a homemade jig , ..i.e wheel hub, lump of steel and a vice to pull the alinment in shape etc then tack weld unitl wheel centres leval, then either mig weld up or tig , long as its correct and a decent weld is replaced its spot on ............if ur unsure then pay 450 quid ,,,,,for 4 wheels banning to ur needs, i thought , might as well do mine myself ,, hour a wheel tops

Every time i look at the updates you have for this build i still get dumb struck at how good you fabrication skills are. I'd be running the staggered wheels, dished on the back and stock on the front. I think the steel wheels suit the ute more then mags.

hi 427 carnt really do it on the fronts due to hub and arch clearance , prob is also i have to keep same size tyres all theway around for the 4wd ratio,so though keep stand rims , but just change rear rims so i don't need 40mm spaces and still have a dish , going to thow a 205 50 16 on see how it looks , i do fancy 215 45 16 which should fill the archers nicely ,,

thew a couple of tyres on to see how they look , still in 2minds wheather i should keep alloys or run these had to fit 205 50 16 couple of pics as it gives me a idea now ,that i need to pull the offset of the rear rims in a bit more to miss the inner archers
