ok not massively retro but:
In 1997 I was 12. I used to read MBUK and MBR mountain bike magazines and remember adverts for Animal products. I bought my first animal watch in the sale like this one:
Animal ANILITE W101, although mine has numberous velcro straps (one like a mtb tyre tread)
I then the following year bought the top spec chronograph in the sale
I remember reading MBUK at one point in 1997 and there was an advert for a new range of animal watches called "Bug" each colour called John, Paul, George and Ringo I remember wanting one for aaaaaages and could never afford one until the wonders of ebay about 10yrs later I found a blue bug watch and bought it for £14! I used it for a while and it eventually stopped working for no reason!
guttted I thought I would never find another until last summer I found one listed on a mountain bike forum listed as "New old stock". I Paid £20 and received it fully boxed, instructions and display stand! I took it to have a new battery fitted (being NOS the battery had run out) and was told by timpsons in maidstone it was unrepairable! when I returned to the north, I took it to my favourite geordie watch repairer and he said "I'll fix it nee bother"
and he did! although, the light doesn't currently work. I am thinking of taking it back to above geordie watch repairer and asking him if he can fix it and possible using the blue watch for parts if required.
I tried to research the bug watch on google but I found nothing apart from a website which was basically a wanted ad, and the info on there basically said due to the price of the original unit they didnt sell well and are consiquently quite hard to find! I am super happy with with my NOS one!
