I recognise that XR4i shell in the background, think it used to belong to a mate of mine. Was a nice car when he had it!

Right saturday went like this, Got home from work bout 2.20 then bout 3 ish got to workin on the car. Took the bonnet off no probs, bumper off easy, drain rad and remove simple, take off exhaust manifold with turbo attached again easy, $ nuts holding the turbo to the manifold thought wont be too hard, First nut came off with a little help from two spanners attatched to give more tourque second and third came off with ease FORTH bloody nut well what can I say, no room for a socket just enough for a ring spanner to fit on with about 90' of turning ability. Brute force didnt work, two spanners linked together didnt work an by this point the nut was slowly becomming rounded, tried spanner and wacking it with a hammer still nothing an by now no sides left. Its getting on now to 9 ish (did have some food between) so last idea was hammer and punt thing. End result was nut still attatched completly rounded an hammered to death an me really really well u fill in that gap. Sunday rained all day an stil in a mood Today got home and had to do something, So out comes the dremmel with the burr tool (its gonna come off) between that and the hammer and punt an 45 mins it eventuatly moved like 2mm and at that moment this became the best day of my life lol ;D Some skillfull work and something that no longer resemble's a nut, an dads punt tool has broken so its a lot shorter now and its off, an it only took me 3 days thats a new record. Now the turbo is all packed up and ready to be picked up tomorrow by Midland Turbo, The only company that responded to my email. So lets hope this is the last thing that needs doing to this car, but from experiance it wont be Mike

still a very cool car . . but still on 3 different types of tires?? . . . that would have been the first thing I would have sorted out . . . AWD cars and mixed tires - not a good idea! I suggest a set of semi slicks ;D

I agree ^
It's an RTA regulation over here to have the left and right tyres on any axle matching. It's also a company recommendation (beaurepaires) for any AWD car to have all 4 tyres changed at the same time to prevent damage to centre diffs.

I think tyres would be last on the list.
Don't get too disheartened! its an epic car, looks great and you have come this far.
Best of luck, and hopefully no more dramas!

Wow its been ages since Iv done a post on this. Anyways time for an update. (its a long story so bear with me) In october last year I was gonna pull her out of the garage for a clean as there was a local club meet tht day, fired her up to hear a strange gluepy sound, switched her off, popped the bonnet to see tht the entire oil contents where now in a lovely large puddle on the floor, to which I simply walked out of the garage and closed the door and did sod all to her for quite a while. Well last wednesday after 7 months of her just sitting there I decided to finally start working on her. Now Id been in touch with the lancia club and came up with two possible reasons for the oil slick, the hard one would be the cranck shaft oil seal gearbox side (as thts the side of the engine tht the oil originated from) which would require engine an gearbox out, really didnt like the sound of tht or it could of been something as simple as a core plug (but what are the chances). Hears a few pics as she sits now Now Iv decided tht while I'm fixing this oil leak I am going to sort out everything tht needs to be done to this car so tht when she goes back on the road itll be perfect (hoefully ) Hence why Ill be stripping most of the engine bay, tending any surface rust and re-painting the parts tht need so. In the pic above the black pipe attached to the samco hose I intend to replace with more silcone hose and aluminium pipe This needs to be re-painted And now we come to the main problem, the oil leak I was so nervous that it was going to be an engine out job (hence why I left it soo long) but if you look at this pic, can you see what is wrong . Well thats about it for now, will keep you guys posted on how things go over the next few weeks/months. I intend to take my time over this so things are done properly and how they should of been in the first place. L_D_I

Well all the parts have now arrived, got the POR 15 chassis paint aswel as some engine paint to re-do some of the parts where its flaking off.
I hope to get her ready for at least 1 of the shows in August wheather it be the classic car show or the G-tec show at Pembrey.
All I need is some decent weather so I can get out there and start puttng her back together.
I'm now starting to see the disadvantages of having two cars plus the work van, no matter the Delta will be for the summer (what we have of one that is) and for car shows.

Aye, doesn't sound the honest of people does he...?
Either way I bloody love these cars and I will own one at some point in my life. There was one for sale on here months or so ago and just couldn't figure a cheap enough way of getting onto the Island.
Good luck with the project mate, stunning cars.

It has been rather trying at some times but I'm getting there. As for my in law there has been times when all Iv wanted to do is to go punch his lights outs but lets face it that wouldn't do me much good and wouldn't of gone down with my sister very well so I simply kept my mouth shut. Over the years Iv had to learn how to fix her as I don't really trust that many people, to let them loose on her. But as you can see I'm quite fimiliar on how to take her to pieces It was probably mine for sale as I did go through a period of trying to sell it but deep down couldn't bare to part with it. Anyways will get some pics up of the progress in the next week or so.

Good man. The one I was eyeing up was a red one that needed, iirc, the water pump sorting out amongst a few other jobs. Still, one day....

Some excellent work going on here, I admire your persistence, its bloody awful when you have handed over money to a supposed professional to sort your car problems and you get it back with more issues than it went away with. I don't know where Amman Valley is but I don't think its anywhere near me or i'd offer you a hand.
Keep up the good work!

i love these cars. Shame they cost so much here in nz. At least you are learning as you in along. Plus every little job you do on the car is one less to do in future. Soon you wont need to pay others to do the jobs and you'll know when you do a job yourself that its done with care!

Bit of an update. Balance shaft plug has been hammered in to place, Have cleaned up a coplue of the parts and re-painted them, started to sand down some of the minor surface rust that there is but the only thing holding me back at the mo is the sodding rain Changed the spark plugs for correct oem spec ones, thermostat replaced as it seemed silly not to, all Iv got to do mechanical wise is to change the sump gasket as (wont mention his name) just used atv, I wasn't happy as I bought an entire gasket set for the engine but he failed to tell me that the sump 1 was the wrong shape untill after he had done it (great). Replace a couple of pipes and I think that should be it. Sort out the minor rust spots as it would be stupid not too while Iv got it all apart and buy a new battery. So all in all shouldn't be too long, just as long as I get decent weather over the weekends. Sorry theres no pics but there's nothing really that different, once shes done and all cleaned then Ill take some decent shots for you. Thanks for all the comments, they give me the mojo boost I need so I can keep on working on her. L_D_I
