1987 Merc 609D recovery truck. 17 foot bed, will take LWB Transits and will take 4x4s, large estates etc like they weren't there. Ramsey winch (best you can get) with long lead, will pull heavy cars on with no wheels etc. Full length fliers, proper beavertail bed with incredibly big/strong slide out ramps etc. It's a 4.0 n/a diesel with a 5 speed box and will plod along all day forever. 5.6 tonnes MGW so you won't overload it with a big car like a Transit would. Taxed end of June 2009, MOT'd end of March but can supply an MOT exemption form if you want to go down that road. Bodywork rough as you like on the cab, will need a day or so going over and a quick respray would make it look loads better. Scrap prices are rising again and if you couldn't make your money back on this truck within a fortnight you'd be doing something wrong. Pictures to follow but the cab is rough so don't expect a Rolls Royce for this sort of money. Have a look round at all the tired out old Transits etc on eBay and see the daft money they are making. This is a bargain and a real money earner for those not afraid to get their hands dirty.
£900 can drive it away, would take cheaper part-ex, let me know what you have.
Oh, it's in Chester, Cheshire and collection only.

Bump!
had a new battery fitted (£98.00!) and it turns out it's the starter motor. I have found a secod hand starter for £65.00 inc. postage and details will be passed on. Needs to go urgently as no room here.
£900 can take it, it would honestly break and export for more than this. Will take cheaper part-ex too.

Yes indeed it does mate. It also has a master switch for the electrics, another for the winch and I'l even include a brand new wireless remote for the winch which I have somewhere.

Possibly welding inside both front arches but these might not be structural. Best to assume they (structural) and will need doing anyhow. I don't/can't weld but they look easy to access if nothing else. Aside from that a couple of bulbs perhaps and maybe one or two small-ish items. Year before last had rear brake reline, new handbrake cable, headlight glass and a shed load of other things too and cost me £500 to test but was well worth it. I'm just gutted the previous owner hadn't looked after it as well as I had and his attempt at repainting the cab was beyond a joke. I always say there's no point in getting sentimental about previously owned vehicles but I loved this truck and I'm piddled off that some numpty didn't give treat it as well as he should. Happily it's not a basket case or beyond repair it's just not as nice to look at as it was when I had it. It's a bit like meeting that old flame who used to lok like Emma Bunton but has now had plastic surgery and resembles a martian with a face like a blind welder's bench.

Yeah, that wouldn't be a problem in the understanding that I'm not saying it is MOT exempt if you catch my drift. Plenty of people do run them test exempt but the only truly MOT exempt trucks have to be spec lift only and over 3500kgs.

Will do. Truck now stored between Warrington and Manchester so you'll need to bear with me sorry but viewing is possible most of the week as the lad at the yard has keys to truck and the compound. As regards the exemption forms I have two here but don't actually understand them to be quite honest. One is a V112 and the other is a V112G. From reading them one you fill in at the Post Office when you tax it and the other you fill in after you've taxed it and send it to Swansea, does that make sense to you? I have both the forms here by the way. Engine is spot on and starts/runs fine. There was a small pre-filter fitted (assume standard equipment) which jumped ship a long while back so was bypassed but it's never had any bother since. Gearbox seems fine ditto the axles with no noises from any and all working ok.
It'd be better if you could view it if you wouldn't ind as that way you'll see it first hand and have a better idea than photos could demonstrate. The cab is rough, no denying it. Inner wings as mentioned, outer wings rough but should pass an MOT and brand new from Merc they were only about £35.00+VAT each last time I priced them up. Bonnet rough, especially inner edge but eBay throws new ones up from time to time for about £75. Cab roof has surface rust, this could be rubbed down and treated though. Chassis is as solid as the day it was made, brakes are spot on (very good actually) and the bed whilst rough looking (ish) is also solid and shouldn't need any work.
Regarding the MOT exemption if you have trade plates you're laughing as they cover no MOT. It's only tax that you're supposed to have and even then a lot of people don't bother.

Ok: apparantly you apply for test exemption when you tax it. A form then goes to DVLA and you keep another one. People I've talked to who have bought trucks already taxed but with no MOT say they keep an MOT exemption form in the cab with them and haven't had any grief when pulled up.
Bump: needs to go soon.

Start motor fitted and working. Winch working but suspect wander lead is not (winch can be shown working). Got to go, been offered £500 from a scrappy and I can take the back off it for that and the winch but it's madness to scrap it.
Reduced to £750 or swap for something smaller. Van would be nice (swb Transit with side loader?) but will listen to sensible suggestions.
