OK, so I got the Christmas shopping done more quickly than I expected, so time for a little more car work today... got some etch primer on the bare metal areas Also, a package arrived with my nearly-new Nivomat auto-leveling shocks, an ebay bargain after looking out for a long time. And a photo of my new springs test fitted. (The twist is not a worry; top and bottom mounts will be parallel at the my designed ride height). So, once again, Merry Christmas! John

Hi, another quick update. I am working my way round the car, wet flatting and getting each panel as good as possible. My process is: 1. Quick wet flat with large block to get the surface 60% right 2. Test coat - a light mist coat of black (shows up dents, after flatting) 3. Detailed flatting 4. Fill imperfections Once the whole car is done, and imperfections corrected, it will be primed again all-over and hopefully that layer will flat down to a good basis for the base-coat and lacquer. A close-up showing typical high spots (grey primer underneath showing through the yellow) and low spots (mist coat still visible) Surface filler sprayed on... ... and flatted. The bonnet is quite poor, but getting there! Boot-lid is very good The doors have a few slight issues to correct, but are fairly good The rear wings need some work, but I'm very pleased how well they've come out, considering both have had badly repaired accident damage in the car's past life, new wheelarch sections fitted in this project, and my flaring to accommodate the big wheels. Rear panel still needs work - due to Volvo's wobbly pressing! Front panel is good Roof and front wings info to follow soon All for now John

A nice solid, straight bodyshell is now starting to emerge from all the rusty, dented one that we started with! Cheers John

Exciting stuff! This 60% and 80% stuff is much better than I'd have it ...

Frustrating work, getting it all straight ready for paint, but as I've relearned recently (I really do know better!) it's best to spend as much time as possible getting the preparation done before the final coat, it saves so much effort when it comes to finishing off.
Really looking forward to seeing this become a completed car again, it's tantalisingly close.

There will a short pause in the project. I've had a hernia operation today so I need to give that time to heal before getting back onto the car work. Normal service will resume soon!

Looking brilliant! shame about the bonnet though. I'm dreading this stage of my build.
